Just heard the profoundly sad news of Leonard Cohen's death. Most of you I am sure know this man of just magnificent, simple and potent poetry. Happen to have been listening to him from early 70's to present time. His "Halleluia" now performed by some 200 artists was originally written in 1984. He was one of the most influentials jewels in music and songwriting. He will never leave me alone in my musical escapes.
Peace be upon him
Peace be upon him
I always enjoyed his music - Jenifer Warnes' tribute to Cohen "Famous Blue Raincoat" one of my favorite albums of all time...
It came through with the whale of my clock radio last night, Leonard Cohen died. Since then many people have repeated the news to me, "Leonard Cohen died". I dont know how its possible but it also made me realize there are people who have not heard of him, or have heard of him but have no understanding who he was what he did.
That made me think he is one who's popularity will absolutely grow much bigger after passing, reaching further out to continue to touch and inspire people everywhere.

R.I.P.
He had a faithful and large audience here in Norway as well (and Marianne was norwegian).
His music has always given me peace of mind.

I'll be teaching my son "Bird on a wire" tonight although maybe in the more modern gravelly voice rather than the higher singing voice of the original.
...got him playing now.....live album recorded at the O2 Arena. Greatness.
Lets hear it for the heavy smoking depth of voice. Rare these day's.

What a wonderful thing.
Ah treasure these moments...
Goodbye to our Canadian poet, prophet, musician and icon.
I hope Adam and the rest of the family continues his legacy.
Best wishes.

And peace be with all who are yet to discover him. I was very young when I first heard "Suzzane" in 1974...I was immediately struck by that magnificent melancholy voice and words that cut through my bones...Still hearing that song in solitude from time to time...
Below is an excerpt of lyrics written in 1967. Couldn't resist not sharing. I have been haunted by this song through my life. I know it speaks to many and invokes very special memories...
Suzanne takes you down to her place near the river
You can hear the boats go by
You can spend the night beside her
And you know that she's half crazy
But that's why you want to be there
And she feeds you tea and oranges
That come all the way from China
And just when you mean to tell her
That you have no love to give her
Then she gets you on her wavelength
And she lets the river answer
That you've always been her lover
And you want to travel with her
And you want to travel blind
And you know that she will trust you
For you've touched her perfect body with your mind...

To those who appreciated and loved Leonard Cohen, I highly recommend his last and latest release; "You want it darker".
I just received the CD and low and behold called a friend to listen to the first track (album title) with me on the speakerphone. I broke down. Remarkably he is quite clairvoyant. The words clearly imply his readiness to die. I could not listen to anymore than the first track. The grief still fresh, is overbearing. Though a profound underlying desire to commune with him for ever remains.
peace to all
