Lelon capacitors

Anyone knows where I can buy Lelon caps 330uF 63V? Mouser doesn't have them.

Thank you.

Why the hell would you actively search for a known bad cap brand?

I know they are not very well regarded but they sound clean with delicate highs, much more than other caps I've tried. I tried to like Nichicon Fine Gold but it sounds grainy. I tried to like KZ but it has a hard top end. I tried to like Elna Silmics but it sounded bland and slow. I tried to like Panasonic FC but it sounds dirty and agressive. I tried to like many other caps... 🙁 If you know of a better cap that sounds liquid and clean then I'm all ears!

What Lelon series you talk specifically? They are very common here in Athenian shops. I got light green, black, and blue samples in my stash. 85C and 105C.

LELON EL.CAP, RADIAL 105, 330UF/63V, 20%, 10X20, BULK - Easy Buy World

This is all Greek for me... All the symbols from physics class are there! Cool!😎
I can only guess what your pc keyboard looks like...😀

Thank you for the link, Salas!

It's the RGA 105C series I'm after. They were light green and now are black. Exactly the link you gave me.🙂

About reliability, have you had any problems with the Lelons?

There is a language option for GR/ENG on top left of that page. Never used them extensively, only in some non demanding positions, but I would guess any problems will be apparent mainly in computers. High heat and high ripple current applied constantly in other words. But the RGA series is not for computers anyway. I don't know, don't use them near very hot sinks or tubes maybe.

Hi Salas,

Easybuyworld doesn't give me an option to select international shipping, seems they only serve Greece. I sent them a mail but no reply so far. Do you know of any orher greeck shop carrying Lelons?

Thanks!

I bought a couple of them and offcourse you have have the site badcaps.net, but that guy is just filling it's pockets . The stuff i found is that lelon ain't that bad. I really doubt that really bad caps still are made. Why would a brand like stanton use them in every mixer and shitty turntable? I've rebuild a stanton super oem 2012+, but if su'scon was that bad like peoples say, how can the scratchtables still work after years. I'm replacing also su'scon caps in a mixer of them , but the unit sounds fine , no problems, and i doubt if nichicon muse. gold tune will make difference. Though i openend my main higher grade denon mixer and like vestax , full with elna and elna simics on the powersite. Pioneer just uses standard caps, lxg's. I was going to build a sub, but for the price i'm paying for a jbl, i am busy for weeks.....and gain 100euro.... And there are still little substitutes for the ancient stk range st7294 etc.... and the costs of a good tor transformer. Two years ago in real hi-fi smps was bad.... it's now used on a large scale. A large amount of products in the hi-fi scene is cheapass ****. A educated diy person, makes that stuff easily, only you need the case.

Oh Lelon is most definitely bad, I can't count the number of times that I have seen them bulging guts spilled everywhere. That being said, the less demanding the application the less the issue. Power supply is where caps get affected the worst, huge ripple currents and high ESR don't mix. Same with caps near high heat sources like heat sinks or tubes. In general, though its life in demanding situations is highly indicative of how well the cap is built. Cheaper materials, cheaper electrolytes, cheaper aluminum foils, worse bung seals, etc. As for why they still make bad caps? Because they can, because there are cheap manufacturers around the world that don't care if something lasts more than two years because then you will be forced to by a new one.

There was a problem a few years ago with a defective electrolyte some brands of capacitors used including Lelon. Something to do with a stolen formula and industrial espionage. I' hoping that time is long gone but I can't be sure. Audiolab uses and abuses Lelons in their stuff. ASKA Hugh also uses them in PSUs.
I would rather go with a known good brand like Panasonic or Nichicon but in this amplifier the ones I tried don't sound too good. The Lelons sound clean and rather nice. My second choice would be Panasonic NHG, also liquid and clean sounding but with a darker character that I don't like that much. Of course, there are a lot more caps I haven't tried and if someone could suggest a fluid clean souding cap for me to try I'd be more that thankfull!

Hello
I have used Nichicon audiio grade series, Muse, KZ, FA, KT and KG and Elna. They are all superior to other electroyltics and sound wonderful. See their data & material used. Although Mundorf is much more superior but can be superior.

Frolyt capacitor out of an amp made in 1999... I throw them out whenever I can. They're horrible survivors. I've never seen a frolyt capacitor that's not out of specs. They're on top of my blacklist.

That´s 21 years, and yes, you´re entitled to your opinion.
I have very different experience with them (modern day - within last 10 years).
In comparison, you could look at Rubycons in older Luxman amps. They´re far worse 🙂
