There's just a cost/quality ratio that should be considered. If you want a low res projector that's not very big or very bright, you can build one for under $100. I just don't see much of a benefit to spending twice as much just to have a native 16:9 LCD. My theory is either

a) spend as little as possible to make a projector that may look kinnda crappy, but it's compact and cost very little to make.

b) if your gonna spend $2-300 to make a low res projector that looks worse than an analog TV, you might as well spend $4-500 to make a really nice high-res projector instead.

I just look at the two extremes. You either want something dirt cheap, or you want something that looks awesome. I don't think there are many middle-ground routes that are beneficial enough to justify spending more than the dirt-cheap route, or spending just a little less than enough to make something excellent.

Anyways, that's just my opinion on the whole thing. Not trying to discourage anyone, just giving my piece of mind. Persoanlly, I think these in-car LCD's are overpriced for these kind of projects.
