LED Mounting

I'm planning on mounting 3 X 5mm LEDs in a panel utilizing the recommended mounting fixtures shown. However the LEDs have a shoulder around the base preventing sliding the LED into the barrel and the strut inside the mounting barrel prevents sliding the LED into the barrel from the back.
I could trim off the shoulder of the LED if that won't compromise the LED or try and trim/grind out the strut inside the barrel. What would be the best course of action?
The website for Newark seem to indicate the mounting barrel is compatible with those LEDs.

Mouser site is down, says back soon...

The shoulder is there to locate the LED, to hold it in place in the fixture, to keep them from shorting or popping out.

Put the bezel (metal round part) from the external side of the panel, having made a suitable hole that is free...means the device should not be tight.

The usual method is to put the LED in bezel from the interior side, until the shoulder stops it going further, put the plastic insulator at the back of the LED, and tighten the nut.
The insulator usually has holes for the LED leads.
So LED should be soldered after insulator is in place, you can trim the leads to suit your needs, I use fiber or shrink sleeves over the joints, insulation tape loses adhesion over time.
