leave out output capacitors

Hi,

I'm doing my own volume controller based on SPL's laser trimmed symmetry stages (will report soon) and also going to replace the coupling capacitors in my firewire audio interface with good SIMILACs II.

I wonder if I cannot simply remove the output capacitors since the active monitors or later the volume controller have inputs capacitors anyway, which remove the voltage offset of the signal.

Is an output capacitor not in general like 'to can the can', since every device have an input capacitor for decoupling?

Yes, an output capacitor feeding an input capacitor is redundant. Probably input capacitors are a better choice, as they can be sized to the input impedance. Where as output capacitors have to be able to work with any input impedance.
The tricky part is, 3 years from now when you swap units, remembering about what has or has not capacitors.

Pick what your lowest frequency you want your input device to transmit. Find out what the input impedance of your input device. Set your input capacitor to have 1/10 the input impedance if picky, or 1/3 if liberal. Capacitor impedance is 1/johmegaC where omega is 2 pi* frequency in cycles per second. Capacitance is in farads.
