For my wife:
Last year: A USB wireless mouse/laser pointer for presenting lectures.
This year: A 256 MB thumb drive.

lol.. you suck 😛 no offence or anything...
well, um, yah... I do.
I guess that was kind of the point.
But these are things she likes, uses, and wont buy for her self. (of course I enjoy buying them to) She teaches finance, she can use the thumb drive to store her lecture notes, and uses the mouse-pointer for presenting the lectures.
A few years back she placed a moratorium on chocolates and flowers. Makes it a bit more challenging.
I must do better next year.

Epilogue:
She’s tossed the zip drive that she used to live with in a drawer where it now gathers dust.
The memory drive has been declared "life changing" and "one of the best gifts she’s ever gotten"
Go figure.

I learned a lot about the origins and thought process behind "The Sims" in this book:

COMPLEXITY: THE EMERGING SCIENCE AT THE EDGE OF ORDER AND CHAOS
by Mitchell M. Waldrop
My wife had it from a philosophy of education class she took. Told me one or to tales from the book and I was hooked.
I would recommend the book to every one.
I think if Mrs. 5id were to buy me a Tivo, it would surely make me cry.
