Hello,

I am new to this forum and new to DIY Projectors. I am having trouble in deciding what LCD to buy to make my own projector. Sofar I have been to many sites looking at LCDs.

This is where I'm having problems. I would like to use a smaller LCD monitor with high resolutions. I'm looking for something that is 5"-9" with high resolutions of 640 x 480 ~ 1600 x 1200 or more. Though it seems that there are many types out there.

I also want my projector to work off my DVD player or receiver than from a PC. So what connections should I look for? What should I look for in resolution?

I would like the best quality in my projector project. So that's why I need your help. Can someone help answer these questions?

Sofar these are the sites I've looked at.

I suggest that you go with LCD with at least 1024*768 resolution.
So far, I just saw two panels smaller than 15" that produce high resolution and fair contrast: an affordable 14.1" LCD panel with 1400*1050 resolution: http://www.samsung.com/Products/TFTLCD/NotePC/LTN141P4/LTN141P4.htm
and a NEC 6.3" XGA panel with 500:1 contrast ratio: http://www.nec-lcd.com/english/products/industries/nl10276bc12-02.html
Do you think they meet your criteria?

Yes and thank you! Do you have more good choice? Let me know. Thanks again!

Smaller than 15" there seem to be very few choices, as they generally have low contrast, low resolution or high response time. If you can tolerate LCD as large as 15", there will be lots of good choices. LTN150PG may be one, as it has a res 1,400 x 1,050 and cr 500:1. I wish I could buy one to test its performance.
