Ok here's the dealio LOL I ordered a new LCD from ebay 7" non VGA, but when I asked if it had an AC adapter to power it on the woman said no. I said ok no biggie I will just use a DC adapter. But then the package arrives today and I come to find out it has no AC/DC plug hole/slot whatever it is called. It has three wires which I assume are meant for hooking up in a car. In DIY projection who needs there car in there living room LOL. So what I am trying to figure out is how am I suppsed to power this thing up outside a car. Here are the power requirements/manual.

Is that thing you drew a square around a fuse? Though I haven't ever hooked up this kind of display, here my take on it:
Red Wire = 12 VDC
Brown Wire = 12 VDC Switched; If it were in a car this line would be connected to the ignition.
Black Wire = Ground
Hooking up red and black is obvious enough. Just strip the wires on a 12 VDC ac adaptor and connect red to power and black to ground. The switched line could probably be connected to power as well; though it would be always on. You could hook a switch in line if you want. This is all based on installing car audio equipment, so you should see what others think who have some experiance with these displays. Is there a wiring diagram in the book? I'm fairly sure this is correct, but it would be nice to confirm.

edit:
Does it say anywhere how much current the panel draws? Its probably not much, but it would be good to know for when you choose an ac adaptor.

Yes there is a manual that explains this but I dont have a scanner or a goood camera to show you what it says. But it says pretty much what you said except for the brown wire it say the brown wire is meant for: CONNECT TO REVERSE GEAR SIGNAL (GROUND) FOR REAR VIEW CAMERA - VIDEO INPUT 2. That is what it says for the brown wire. Also what is "ground". Im not a electrical person or a car person. So I would buy a 12V AC adapter and hook it up to the red and black wires or what volts would I use. Sorry about the bad pic i toook it with a webcam. Please help me.

Also what is "ground".
Definition of ground from the dictionary
A large conducting body, such as the earth or an electric circuit connected to the earth, used as an arbitrary zero of potential.

Just get an ac adpter that is 12 VDC. I'm not sure how many ma of current the panel draws, buts its probably not much. Cut the connector off the output side of the adapter and strip back the wires. There should be a mark on on of the lines that indicates which is which. Usually a stripe, douple line, or plus signs. The mark indicates the +12v side, so it goes to the red wire. The other side goes to ground, the black wire.

edit:
The brown wire can probably be left unconnected as it is for use as a rear view camera display. I'm guessing it triggeres the switch from video input 1 to input 2

hmm.. ull need an adapter with 110 or 120 volts AC input and a 12volts DC output, and probably some decent output, like 1000 Ma (miliamperes) (with also equals to 1 A, ampere)

The ac adapter for my 15" LCD is 1A, so that is probably more than enough. Better safe than sorry though right 😉 Here is a link to a suitable adapter at radioshack. You might be able to find a better price somewhere else, but I don't really know what stores are in your area. I figured that there are probably RadioShacks everywhere.

It says 25V after the 12V~ it says it look on the manual.

It means it will work with anything between 12v to 25 volts. There is probably voltage regulators on the panel itself. It's smart that it works on that range as most of the cars actually produce a bit over 12v when motor is running (something like 13-14v), and also the bigger trucks and busses and such have 24v systems.

FAILED!

I bought a 12V AC adapter and stripped it to find another white wire on the inside there were copper wires all around the white wire. I stripped the white one then did the negative wire and the same thing except the internal wire was yellow. I wound the wires up, the copper to the white and the other copper to the yellow. The adapter was 1700mA does this matter if it is over the recommended mA? Welll I did this and then blah nothing happened. 🙁 I will keep trying but if you go over 1000mA is it supposed to still work?

ummm.. what?:xeye: lol
I have no idea what you said, except about the mA rating, yes it can be higher, no problem. Ive used 2000mA to power tiny little leds from a computer, no problem there
