LCD Panels & Video Game Console Input

Hello all.
I just got a bogus Nview Spectra C, and a 3m (old skool) projector, and guess what. THIS WORKS!!!! & IT'S GORGEOUS!!!
I ordered a few samples of projection cloth from somewhere, don't have time to find where right now, i'll update l8r...& wow, what a difference the cloth material makes.
Now to my question....
Can i hook up a nintendo, or sega to my Spectra C? Or will there be resolution problems? (native 640x480)
I think i'm going to need to snag a VGA - RCA converter on ebay, but what's $10?
But will the nintendo/sega give a solid output? Or am i going to need to hook the panel up through a computer just to get it working?

Maybe I'm going off topic a little but why don't you use your computer as a videogame console emulator and connect your computer to the lcd panel ? You'll be amazed to play your old favorites 8-bits games with 1024X768 (or 640X480) resolution.

This fixes the problem of cables spaghetti and very low image quality using RF modulator. Moreover you don't need to blow inside your cartridges and depending of your lcd panel, you don't need a line doubler.

There's also the legal aspect of emulation which seems to lie in a gray zone.

My 2 cents 🙂

i was thinking about using an emulator...but the legal aspect = bad news.
I appreciate y'allz 2 bits.
I just don't have the $ for the tv-3k or 4k.
Is there anybody in this forum who's tried the cheap route?
a.k.a. VGA-RCA adapter on ebay? (~$10)
If not, I guess i'll be the first & let u guys know how it turns out....
🙂

There's nothing illegal about any emulator whatsoever. Bleem!, for example, can be bought in stores.

Downloading rom images of games you don't already own is copyright infringment. However, there is a lot of controversy over old games. Many people feel (myself included) that if an old game is no longer sold or supported by anyone, and no longer has commercial value, it is considered abandonware, and therefore should be in the public domain.

That being said, there is absolutely nothing wrong with downloading roms of games you already own (however, the person you download it from is infringing). Some a-hole company lawyer could claim that you can't download roms of games that you have cartridges for, but that's absolutely ridiculous and wouldn't stand a chance of holding up in court.

Point is, if you bought a game, you can do whatever the hell you want with it.

Ok. That's cool & all, but sort of getting away from the topic of my post.
I just wanted to know if anybody had used a cheap vga-rca converter, and what the results were, not the legalities of ROMs.
I plan on making at least 4 of these projectors & didn't necessarily want to buy a computer for each on top of the initial cost....
remember, cheap...diy....cheap....diy......
Anyway, i'm in the process of buying one of these cheapy converters on ebay, just to see if it works.....
ANYBODY TRIED THIS YET??

tv tuner cards

ok...since it'd be too expensive to get 4 tv-3000's, or tv-4000's, I think i'm going to put together a cheap computer off pricewatch, and add 4 PCI TV tuner cards....
I'll price this out 2nite and post about how much it's going to run.
At first I was so concerned with getting all of this high end equipment, including a really nice OHP.
I bought a junker OHP on ebay & it works phenomenal.
Hooked up my laptop to the Nview Spectra C, (640x480 res, 16bit color) And had myself a 6 foot desktop.
Maybe 2nite I'll take some pictures & post em.

Been playing around a lot with different types of cloth to project onto. The best results I've seen have come from my friend's disassembled window shade out of his bedroom.
I tried tons of different fabrics, including ordering a few samples of projection cloth online. From what i've found, the lamp shade picks up the best all around color. Maybe the projection fabric samples were just not big enough (about 4x7 inches). All the other fabrics washed out color one way or another.
The most comparable fabric was the 'white canvas' that I picked up at Jo-Ann fabric. So far, it looks like I'm buying 4 window shades for the projection screen.
The next problem to tackle is how to suspend these shades. Oh yes, they do roll up.

Anyway, the cheap VGA-RCA converters apparently won't work. I was told they are only for displaying your computer onto your television. Maybe i should just buy one anyway, & see what kind of results it puts out, eh?
