Hi Everyone,
I am a newbie to DIY projectors. I have been going through the different threads and am a bit confused about what would be the best way to proceed.
I just bought a ELMO HP-A305SD on ebay. Now I am confused whether I should buy a 15" LCD monitor or a LCD projection panel. What are the pros and cons? I am thinking about either getting a SHARP QA 2500 or a NEC 1555V monitor. What would be a better option. I plan to use the projector for both normal TV and DVD (I will probably play DVDs using both my laptop and my Toshiba DVD player). What is the difference between the contrast ratio, resolution, color etc....
Thanks.

Ok on reading more I have figured out at least one difference. Looks like there is some work involved in getting a LCD monitor to work with a OHP. It needs to be disassembled and then there may be a need to make the connections longer.
What I am more interested is the difference in image quality between a good projection panel (Sharp QA 2500) Vs a 15" LCD monitor.

Bear with me here guys...
I did search through the forum and got the various pros and cons of LCD panels and LCD monitors but no where could I actually find a comparision between the two. Since I have both the options available and the costs are almost similar I want to compare them head to head.

Hey, its not off topic if the thread has been covered many times. Sorry to sound rude. Anywho, my project is still under construction. I just recived my nec 1541V lcd monitor today and its great! I think i am going to buy another one to use as a monitor. I have to pick up the plexiglass from the glass shop so i can begin construction. So no pics yet. I will however post them as soon as I begin the contstruction of the plexiglass case. Its going to kick A$$!

i dont think its so easy to get a 2500....its one of the most wanted panel.... setting a plan to just "casually" buy a 2500 isnt a very good idea... first you have to find one then you have to battle hungry bidders and be willing to blow LOTS of cash, some one on the forums paid 560$ for it,....which i think isnt very smart...
well you CAN get lucky ..who knows..
Yeah I got the idea that it was not easy to get one. That's why even before I tried I wanted to know if that is a best option or a LCD monitor is equally good.
negative design
heya negative design ok u are building a case with plexi lol ok im building mine out of it too but im sure abit of a diff design than yours, great choice though dont use wood its crap lol but anyway if ya wana know what is the best glue paint ect give us a hola and ill help ya out before u stuff the thing up and how to make a custom lens barrel and holder for it out of plastic perfect fits too and i recoment using aluminium for a frame too and for the strength i got tricks in that aswell so give us a hola and ill help ya out if ya want.

heh... that would be me... I kind of lied though... im actually using a plexiglass like material i think is called lexon. Acording to the glass guy you can drill the stuff. Anywho, the project in past planning and will happen, its just a matter of picking up the glass, and getting motivated. lol 🙄 !
For the best result/bond in Lexan or Plexi use weldon 4 or 3 Its what you use to Bond Plexi togeather to make plexi aquariums. Just thought I would throw that out here. Good luck

hehehe ok lexon, im sure its the same as plexi but a different grade, if u can drill it its plastic or acrylic eitherway not glass although u can drill glass, ill look the stuff up and get back to ya tomorrow or the next day, as for the motivation wellllll.............. ive been on mine for a month and a half and now its over half done , i must admit a great job and alot of work but ill tell ya now i wont be building another one for a while, every nown and then i gota turn it on to see the resualts, gets me motivated to do more on the thing lol

Plexi glue
yeah thats right cos it doesnt go white and is resitant to water, but for real strength go for loctite, super glue is strong too but will give u the white marks ok if u are going to paint it cos u goto to sand it anyway, but for a clear super strong joint (im talking if u tried to break it the peices would break but not at the joint) use the loctite or the weldon 3-4. And remember use the smallest bit as this stuff spreads real easy as i found out a number of years ago playing with the stuff nearly lost my fingers in the process lol
