LCD panel question

okay...I'm a newbie. don't hurt me!

I've done extensive reading over the past several days, but I'm unclear on the pros/cons of using the LCD from a monitor vs an LCD projector designed for use on an OHP.

Obviously, the resolution and the contrast will be higher -- are there other reasons?

Well, if you have a specific panel in mind it will probably be really hard to find. Monitors you can just buy though...though they will also be more expensive. Trust me in me saying that you'll want the best possible..so just get the monitor.

Buy an lcd projection panel and overhead projector for your first project. You will get a feeling of how everything works, what you can improve, what the limitations are, and so on. Remember, all the stuff you buy such as a projection panel and ohp will not go down in value. In fact, evey lcd panel i have bought and resold, has been for at least 50% profit. Once you have an easy, good looking ohp and panel setup, do some research and plan for a stripped monitor. Remember, the number one reason people fail is because they take on projects with lack of experience.

I'm going to build an OHP/projection panel system to get started -- a good way to learn the basics, I agree.

A couple of questions -- has anyone tried this with laptop LCDs? there are loads on ebay for really cheap. Any chance you could tie one of those in? it's usually possible to get a trashed laptop; maybe rip the video subsystem out?

Also, will *any* flat panel monitor work? In several photos I see, the LCDs are not transparent, they have white on the back of them...or do you not backlight and LCD from a monitor?

Just trying to get my head around this flat panel option...thanks!
