Hello everyone this is my first thread here. I have a general question. Why do you have to take a LCD monitor apart to make your own digital projector? I am in the process on how to figure out to make my own with a portable dvd player and seen others take those apart as well. But why? Can I still make one with out taking it apart. Oh and another question, why is a fresnel lens needed?

a lot of this you can look up but i will try and help you out

the way lcds work is that they are powered by a backlight. esentially what we are doing is replacing the backlight with a more powerfull one . to do this the original backlight must be removed. this is the stripping process.

thank you. that's what I sort of figured out but wasn't 100% for sure about the back light. I have seen a design just recently you could take a small lcd screen. this is what they had here http://www.audiovisualizers.com/madlab/lcd_proj.htm they have two 75-100 watt light bulbs on the side as you can see what I mean, wonder if that would work. I will keep looking for another method. not really keen and to savy with electronics and go and take apart my portable dvd.
