Lcd 5.6...

One nice thing about OHP's is that you don't need to get a small panel to use with it. Small panels are generally harder to find in higher resolutions, and they don't usually have the pixel quality needed for a good projected image.

Also, if you use a small panel with your OHP (say, one that's 1/4th the size of your OHP screen size), you're only going to have 1/4th the light going through your panel, and a 1/4th brightness image. If you get a larger panel, you'll not waste as much light, and you'll have a brighter image for the same projected image size.

One of the better options for using an OHP is getting an OHP projection panel -- like the NView Spectra C that is talked about so much (but there's many others that can be used with great success). I watched a DVD on a $60 NView Z-Series, 32-bit color, 640x480, and it was a beautiful image.

The compact screens are generally bought by people who want to make projectors without the OHP. OHP's are an easy, cheap way to build a projector, but they're clunky. If you use a small LCD and a projection lens, you can make a smaller, cooler-looking projector (but some people just care about the image/price, so they go for the OHP and LCD Projection Panel idea).

I hope you know what I mean by the overhead projection panel, and I hope those reasons are correct. 🙂 I've only been active on this board for a month or so, but this is the information that I've gathered so far. Hope it helps!

Keep imagining!

thanks i understand completely, me i plan to use this LCD with an ARTOGRAPH and if this doesnt work i will make a custom prjector. and the thing you said about 1/4 light hmm.... i think i can build a small black box aroud it that would absorb all the light and i owuld place the LCD in the center, do you think its possible?

Yes, you can do that, but that's how you're going to lose all your light. All the light absorbed by the black box will not be sent through the LCD, and therefore wasted. That's how you'll get 1/4th of the light available. A 4"x5.5" LCD screen (or whatever it is) on an 8"x11" space is only going to use 1/4th of the area. All other light will not go through the panel and therefore wasted.

Hope this helps.

correct me if im wrong but, don't projections panel have a dark box/modules. hmm... well i think it better to lost light than to have excess light. since 1/4 will be on the screen there should be light around the picture. then again its just a thought

ND:
I don't know what you mean by Panels with a "dark box/modules"? I got a Spectra C on Ebay for $99.00 had it for about a week, works great and no hassle. Mine just has a boarder and case to stop light from leaking into the room, nothing to interfere with the actual LCD.

I think what HanClinto was talking about was the actual surface area of the panel that light can get though, think of it as light coming though a key hole with the door closed, or light coming though with the door open. Same light source but more "surface area".

Also I'm not sure about the 5.6" your getting, but I've got this one:

http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/show...4&St3=78071829&DS_ID=3&Product_ID=16107&DID=7

I bought it to use in my car, so when I found this sight I tried to take it apart ... No Go, the ribbons are connected in 2 different places, But I've heard the thinner the modual the better the chances, so yours might work, but theres no replacement for the resolution situation. Good Luck!

black box waste of lummen?

hai,

i was thinking.. i know a larger screen is better than a small one on an OH(i'm very convinced about it myself), but still, wouldn't it be better IF(if and only IF) you're gonna use this method, you better of with a reflectif box/frame around the lcd in stead of the black box? On the other hand, the bulb maybe could get too hot for this setup and shorten the lifetime
