the first advantage is not needing a crossover , the other is that the tweeter and woofer are in the same plane you get a single sound point.
if it was for me i would build the 3 way , my favourite speaker is w(6 1/2")m(4")t(0,75 or 1 ")w plus subwoofer 10" or bigger

I agree and this was my original line of thinking. I was considering this unit 8008-Center which is 8", 4"/Tweeter 8". I also have dual 10" subs running to take care of everything below this.

that looks like a good choice, my setup 4 x wwmt 8"WW 4"M 1"T and 2 10" JBL subs , if you go active with something like minidsp it´s the cherry on top of the cake.
i too have to have my speaker horizontaly because my room is too small
Thanks for the feedback!
So it sounds like a WMTW type configuration may be the way to go for me given my circumstances.
With that in mind, what options do i have for proven DIY kits in this area?
I have seen the one by Troels which looks good but cant see any actual reviews on it from people who have built it.
Does anybody else have any feedback on kits that they have built or experienced?

The 8008 speaker is impressive; however you may get some extra boom inserting them into a cabinet with doors. E.g. I have two smaller subs here and cabinets up front that I could slide them into, but worried about losing detail. Actually, I moved them to the back of the room recently and the system never sounded better.
If possible, bring the drivers to the front surface; far forward as you can get away with.
Since the 8008 is a bass reflex, probably not the best choice for a speaker that will be inside another cabinet. Note, I’m a huge bass reflex fan, love that extra umph at the lower end. You may want to take a look at the Madisound HDS kit (which is sealed box) that little speaker hangs in there with my 2 front speakers that are twice the size (ported, Vifa 7” woofer and Morel tweeter).
The center for my friend’s HT, we used a base reflex two-way, Peerless 5-1/4” woofer, #1591 and again the Morel tweeter. It’s a shame they stopped making that driver, that little driver can go down to 40 hz. I’m still using them in two listening areas – pic attached.
Obviously, I’m going with the HDS, it’s not very big, the cabinet could be as small as 160mm, less if you were to push it. Again the build is pretty simple, and the cost is very reasonable.

That is an interesting point and something that i was also concerned about. As the proposed position of my speaker will be surrounded on 5 sides by the cabinet, i actually contacted Troels asking this exact question. His response was (in summary):
"if there is room for it to breathe there should not be any problem. as long as there is an inch or 2 clearance especially at the rear then it should be fine"
So my plan was to make the recess in the cabinet where the speaker sits to have a good couple of inches at the back and at least an inch all around to give it breathing space. i was also thinking it may be a good idea to line the inside of the cabinet recess with a thin damping material to try and eliminate any resonance.
As a side note i have heard/read that a 3 way is preferable to a 2 way design, so i guess this was one of my main reasons for going with Troels 3 way design.
dont like ported cabs , but that´s me , anyway i´ve searched but couldn´t find a proven design wmtw. i´d risk building something like this just changing drivers position and making the cabinet same size as the (black) baffle
