I ripped apart a laptop tft screen and put it on a OHP and it works great, much better than my 3m4850 projection panel.

I have only one problem, there are prints with chips on 2 sides of the screen connected with each other with a flat ribbon cable too short to get the prints out of the way, anyone who has an idea to solve this?? (pics will follow)

here`s one

it`s about the little brown cable in the upper right corner

Hi maddog

Good effort. That little brown cable it doesn't have connectors on it. Just a flex cable that slips into a connector. Right.

I have seen those in lots of gear. My microwave oven has that type of cable. HP printer too. If you get stuck I have a dead printer with that kind of cable. About 4 inches long. I will send it to you if you want.

BTW is your panel still connected to your laptop. You say its much better than your other panel. How much better.

i needed longer flexcable (laminated) and found MOLEX
they are the world maker of laminated cable

contact them online or their 1 800 and get in touch with Mike Birch of sales just find out before you cantact him exactly the type of cable you need.
you may end up getting the cable as sample for free
they are used to dealing with 100 k of cable and if you need one or two they send it out as sample request!

cable

from the pics you posted i cannot determine if the cable is flatcable or laminated flatflex ???

if it is flatflex , forget soldering....
if it is regular flatcable like the type used of diskdrives then you could still have a chance but!!!! my guess is that you cannot extend this cable as the signal will not get through!

Jean-Pierre

-knows all about flatflex and relating connectors!

ok this is something no one else should read, just you and me! ok?:xeye:

you want to extend laminated cable?
measure how wide it is and count the pos.
then check with Molex if they have your length and get 'sample'
then go to parlex site and order o connector for board purposes.
when you get this connector in, put the 2 cables (the one on the board and the other new one together with the open contacts against eachother and stick them in the pcb connector!!!!!!

that is how i managed to get my lcd away from the pcb!

nore technical? email me!
