Sounds crazy but i am having difficulty finding 8 ohm L-pads, they all seem to be the wall plate -mount type.

Input transformer? What input transformer? You mean for the microphone input? And when you say between the secondary and plate, do you mean grid?
Anyway, a simple twisted pair should work just fine.

Well, since we now know that your mic preamp is ultimately a power amp and is designed for driving an 8 ohm load, I'd stick with the 8 ohm L pad.

Most of the wall plate types I've seen were just a basic L-pad mounted to a wall plate. Should be able to just remove the knob, undo the bushing nut on the L-pad and remove it from the wall plate.
