Playing with the Edge Software I realized that the ideal driver placement in large baffles is the same for OB and closed speakers, and it´s very close to the edge of the baffle. However, I find that "strong" dipole character makes a lot of "air", but compromizes imaging.
Now, when I keep the driver placement and extend the OB to an L, so that the path length to the listener is the same on the left and on the right side.
Will the response still be good? Or will it look more like the one for center placement in a flat baffle (worst case)? Or completely different? Is there a way to estimate the response with available tools?

Hmm, lots like a compromise between a flat baffle and a U-frame. Narrower than a flat baffle but slightly wider than a U-Frame without the cavity resonance!
I'm sure there'd still be some kind of resonance fromed from the corner of the L, wouldn't there? 😉

Possibly, but it would most likely be minimal since there aren't any parallel surfaces to form standing waves.
