hey-Hey!!!,
Heathkit and McIntosh ran them to grid current in W6m, MC60 and MC75 designs. I can't see why triode connection would pose any significant trouble.
cheers,
Douglas

I was mainly concerned with:
1. Grid dissipation. There is a potential to drive the grid quite a ways positive when triode connected. Don't know if this would cause harm.
2. Grid stopper, which I kind of thought was necessary. However, the designs you pointed out omit them.

hey-Hey!!!,
Grid stopper resistors would create distortion due to the voltage developed across them as grid current flowed. As yu noted, where it is reasonably expected, they are left out.
