do you have a turntable or are you looking at buying one and upgrading it (which appears to be the case). If looking to buy one, perhaps a new Rega P1 or similar would get you going without requiring upgrades to start with.

ksporry..sorry. I suffer from ADD and my fingers sometimes get ahead of my brain (or is it visa versa?). No offense was intended.
Just trying to clarify what information you need. Do you have a chance at a good used deck, or a new one ? Are you limited to Pro-ject or are there others you might consider?
Now, if you already have the Thorens, I'd suggest trying to resurrect it, rather than starting with the Pro-jects. I've had good success "re-making" a Sugden turntable. I know the Thorens are very good too (particularly if you do a DIY Chadwick modification to one).
Here in my neck of the woods, turntables are getting tough to find. I'm sure in the UK there are many good used or salvage tables you could get your hands on.

I got a very knackered td125 I'm the garage. Not sure if I can salvage the whole deck, but the ARM is a nice sme one, with a very rare cartridge (name slipped my mind)
However, i saw a gorgeous 38mm acrylic platter on eBay. combine that with the project Genie design, and I can imagine a very nice deck.
I still have some oak from a kitchen top I could use for base. Some extra bits n bond from Mr eBay and an interesting deck is born.
Reason why o consider the genie, is I like it and as a basic deck its decent. I could start replacing the platter.

New switches can been had almost anywhere. Rewiring the electrics is east, as is replacing any compnents in the electronics. Check out the analog dept (The Analog Dept. ) for some Thorens specific ideas and revamping information.

thx, I will look into it. I'm afraid I don't have any pics. I'll need to get the deck from storage (not difficult actually). It's running inconsistent (speed). I think that's largely due to lack of lubrication, and it could do with a new belt.
You're probably right that I can revamp the electronics, if I can find a schematic of it.
When I get it out of storage I'll try to put some pics on here and I'll also have a look at the cartridge that's on there.

The 125 is a belt drive. The TD124 (and a couple of others) have a combination of belt and rim drive.
