Just curious...are there grounding problems that keep the amp from being silent? Or is this a lack of PSRR? How much ripple are you measuring on the rails?

Not like I've built a lot of amps from scratch, but the two Class A amps that I did build really benefited from a capacitance multiplier power supply, as both turned out to have poor-to-mediocre PS ripple rejection, despite the designers claims to the contrary.

Possibly a grounding or wire dress issue or RF pickup. With no input hooked up, it is hard to say from a distance. The circuit, as designed, has regulated supplies (capacitance multiplier) for the entire amp, except for the drivers and outputs.

Hi Steve
Good to read you!
I’m using Heybrook speakers (British made) around early eighties – 3 way closed box, “Seas” drivers; 10 inch woofers. They are not modern, but drivers are new – (I rebuilt them a couple of years ago) – very good sound. A good match, in my opinion.

That's good. I want to find out what different types of speakers work well with my amps. I know they have been used with electrostats , planer, ribbons and assorted box speakers. So far, they have worked well with everything, but there could still be something out there that gives them problems, although I doubt it.😀

Speakers

I've used it with-

- Infinity Kappa 7
- Von Schweikert VR 4-Jr
- Snell Type E II

But I did not really crank it with the Kappas, played it loud but not full out like I did with the others. I may do so later, but having worked on this for many months I don't want to blow it up quite yet.

I was thinking (and I put this on the web page) that this amp would be good for people who think digitial (or their present system) is harsh and bright. It really smoothes and relaxes the sound. Just my 2 cents.
