Aren't there any set screws you'll have to lose? Otherwise, gently pull the knobs off.

There seem to be set screws (there are holes on the sides). But nothing I try with seem to bite/fit.

Generally speaking, there are slotted set screws as well as hexagonal ones. Please have a close look, if necessary using a magnifying lens.
