Hmm, now should I completely abuse my mod powers and make his post disappear....
🙂

Man, don't do that, I've got to hit 5000 too! And I've actually read every post. And built a krell clone!

It appears that I'm the only one childish enough and easily amused by trying to hit those numbers.

This has gotta be the biggest thread here by # postings and #views right?

Hi Guys,

OK, as far as the fan goes, I used a Globe Motors A47-B15A-15T1-100 . It worked just fine when I put it in. As a matter of fact it still keeps things cool enough but it is making too much noise. My tunnel is mounted sideways sit hte fan mounted between the tunnel and the back plate of the amp and blows out the back. The air inters the case through holes in the side that cause cool air to flow over the drivers. The whole thing works great except for the noise. Maybe I should have bought a better fan. This one says it's good up to 158 degrees F. Maybe I have exceeded that. It didn't make noise until I let it live out in the garage for a few days. Perhaps it got too hot out there.

OK, now for the P101 vs. Krell. I have been trying to compare them but the P101 is so much louder that it makes it difficult. I tried using two different preamps to get the volume closer but the preamps put their own little spin on things so it is still difficult. After listening to the Krell for a couple of days now I have to say that it has a charm to it's sound that I don't think the P101 can match. It is just a joy to listen to anything on. I can't wait to get that fan noise fixed. It ruins the ambiance during quieter passages. I need a recommendation for a quiet 120v fan that can live with the hot air moving through it.

Troy,

I was kind of kidding you about matching the transistors, but if you are really willing to do it, that would be awesome.

My 2 cents. Remove the fan, bolt the heat sinks directly to the chassis and put the fan on the inside end of the tube. Sound should decrease significantly. The fan would not be as efficient, but it is a closed tube(no leaks so constant pressure through the tube) and I think the added mass of the chassis would help the heat dissipation and in turn offset any losses in fan efficiency.

Matching for 250 should not be a problem, but I still haven't seen anyone jump up and determine a kit price...

ALL-
Again I am looking for participation in this GB... This is not a retail store where you pop in pay money and get parts... This is DIY.

We have not priced all the parts and divided for 50 kits/channels.

Isn't it just to put the needed number of each component in the shoppingbasket of the retailer in question, punch in the adress it's supposed to be delivered to? You usually get the total price before accually placing the order. Then dividing that number by 50.

When all three totals are collected, add the paypal fee and a couple of bucks for the final shipping.

Now, I could be wrong since i generally don't use supliers in america... But someone overthere could probably do it in, say 30min?

Everyone here will tell you to use a Papst pretty much the world leader having the quietest fans. See this link. Some of the fans (I think they are called variofans) might need another part (temp sensor or something). Note that you can get a used one cheap at this link. I got me one but as its the type that might need another part I've not tried to use it, ok.... I'm not sure how to use it.

Exacumally! :clown: .. But I want someone else to do it, post that price here in the thread, I will add the 3% paypal, $6/12 shipping, and $1 incidentals and wa laa!.. A GB kit price with NO mark up and we can press on!

On mousers page, when doing a search for some resistors, you get 2 alternatives. One that ends with "/R" and one without. Is there any difference?

Because some of the backordered items are available /R-less.

one more thing, when you posted the partslist some pages back you wrote:

71-CCF02-F-25 100
R105, R126 100
71-RN65D-F-100/R 100
RB1, RB2, RB3 150
71-RN65D-F-100/R 150
RE1, RE2, RE3 150

does R105, R126 100 refer to the part directly beneath?

I actually went letter for letter. No subs, so what ever was on the BOM is what I selected. If the /R is a suitable sub is a question for the PCB designers such as Jan, Al or Pavel....

R105 and such were resistors that had no specified value. I did not know what to order.

All-

Why is it that only 2 people are participating in the Parts GB? I know I got a request for parts from more than 2 people.... Pull your weight...

I have a word-file with shippingcosts and a price total but i can't upload it.

Can i send it to you by e-mail?

but for all others:
Price excluding shipping is

Mouser: 694$
Digikey: 284.15$
Welbornelabs: 270$

But if we say 10$ to 13 $ from each company in shippingcosts i think the parts can be sent with 3-day shipping.

Welbornelabs:
100pc V4-4.75k - Vishay/Dale V4 1/2 watt metal film 4.75kohms
200pc V4-1.50k - Vishay/Dale 1/2 watt metal film 1.50kohms
450pc V4-100 - Vishay/Dale 1/2 watt metal film 100 ohms
100pc V2-100 - Vishay/Dale 1 watt metal film 100 ohms
200pc V2-49.9 - Vishay/Dale 1 watt metal film 49.9 ohms

20+40+90+40+80= 270$
So approximate 280$ when 7$ minimum shipping is added.

The 200pc of 49,9ohmresistors substituts for the 100pc 25ohm 2W resistors.

Didn't see a 5k trimpot on the list, so I found an in-stock candidate at mouserBourns Trimpot

50 of them would be $120
Add that to the total above, accounting for shipping, paypal and packing materials divide by 50 and it looks like $30US per side. Correct me please if I am wrong.

Al- there is a 22k trimpot on you BOM for R1. Is this on the current board? What's it used for?

~Brad

prices refer to these parts.

Parts required for 50 channels. We had a pre-request for 42, and then 4-8 more. I would order 60ish channels for spares/mail losses.

Al's BOM is a direct decendant of Jan's, and the part kits should work on both sets of boards. So the 22K may have been a JAN specific part.

Great work both of you. I will try to get a single channel price together tomorrow and start accepting money.

A 7 day order period, 3-4 day supplier shipping, and 4-8 day turn-around to get kits out the door...
