Krell KSA 100mkII Clone

UK source for FETs

Hi,
has anyone looked at alternative FETs to the three that are listed in the BOM?

My usual supplier Rapid, has irfd110 & irfd9120, zvn2110a
None available with their complement.
Farnell have zvn2110a/n2110a in qty of 5.
Neither have 1n5309 nor 1n509.

some of the bits are a bit tricky.
RS do have zvp2110a/zvn2110a in multiples of 5. They also have J509 - currently oos tho'.....
Have yet to find any supplier other than mouser for 1n5309's

Re: Boards

Hey Mark;

Have all of the boards been sent out yet? I hadn't recieved mine and noticed that some of my fellow Canucks had recieved their shipments already. Perhaps I am just eager. Please let me know once you have had a chance to check into the situation.

thanks,

Paul

Mark, Thanks a lot

Right now Im sitting here sipping on a glass of fine red wine, 😎 and looking at 6 absolutely outstanding Krell Clone PCB´s
Yes they has arrived and I has received 6 boards. None wounded or lost board.

Excellent, and thanks for your effort Mark. I really appreciate that you took your time to start and had this thread going on active for the processing of ideas and design suggestion. Also I wanna thank the excellent PCB-designer PWatts, and others participating in this project to develop this excellent board.
Now Im looking forward to start building the boards. 😀

Also I would like to seriously start to discuss the main transformer issue. Im going to order the Krell original transformer (from Avel) and I would like to check if other could consider to use this part when building the Clone

You guys considering using Krell original transformer, Do you want me to start a GB for this part or do you have another suggestions (if any interested)

Best Regards😎

ONe of the boards I received has what appears to be a couple of pretty good scratches across the back that was touched up with solder mask applied with a brush or something. Did anyone else get boards with this type of damage? I haven't tried testing for continuity yet but I can see where at least a portion of one of the large clad areas was scratched through the cladding. Kind of a bummer to start placing quality components onto a board that is not pristine. I wonder if the folks who made these boards would be up to replacing it.

Blessings, Terry

That's really a bummer considering that they were fairly expensive compared to other board-houses esp since they do gvmt orders as well. Maybe they put a beginner appie on it since it was such a small order or something, but I'm sure if other boards had such serious damage it would have been mentioned.

Terry,

Just return it to me and I'll replace it. I didn't notice any that way when I was packing them but I didn't reflect any light off each one in a way that might reveal that. I did notice one that had a tiny smear on one of the diodes white silkscreen though but that was it. Didn't you want GOLD boards anyway? I seem to remember something about that...... The board house came up 4 boards short at the end of the run which is not unusual as there are always a few rejects... I didn't want them to hold the shipment till they made more 4 new boards since they finished on a Friday so its possible they touched them up and sent em anyway since I did get 200.

Hi Mark.

I don't want you to have to eat this. Will they replace if for you? I'm not sure if I still have your address. Would you mind emailing it to me? Thanks so much for the kind offer. The board with the scratches also has the smear on the diode as you mentioned too. Weird that only some of the board had that.

In retrospect, I wish now that I had ordered the gold boards now that I have seen them. Oh Well, Live and learn.

Blessings, Terry

The smear is likely because of the footprint I used that came from a different library (the only footprint I didn't create myself). The white block was a lot of thin white lines which the board house had problems with, but they said they'll fix it. Apparently not.
