Hey all,
First time building an amp and just looking for something fun to do 😀.
I just want something that can drive a 5.1 system and that has treble and bass control knobs (check attachment). So I was wondering if you guys know any threads or kits I can look at.
Basically something I can copy and apply simply without searching for hours on compatibility, performance, if the design actually works etc. Because I know very little about class D chips or audio amp designs in general for that matter.
Since I live in FRANCE, I found this site for kits. Not sure if any of them are good or not.
Thanks in advance for your help!

For a beginner I would stick with ready made and tested modules.
Class D can be a minefield for the beginner.
It is fussy about layout and decoupling.
It took me 3 revisions before I got a irs2092 based class d amplifier to work.
There are some IR designs that give parts list, ready made pcb layout etc
Look up IRAUDAMP series.

Hi Nigel,
I found this design (IRAUDAMP17) from IR that looks interesting. For me, 200euros is a lot for a 2 channel amp. Especially considering need at least 4 channels... and that's not counting the PSU etc.
There is a PDF provided with all the layouts and the BOM. I was thinking of just copying it and building it myself to save some money (will I??). Is that even possible?
And why is it so expensive compared to this Tripath module for example?

Hi Mojito,
+1 go with ready made and tested modules.
Audiophonics has a big choice :
module amplificateur - Audiophonics
I use ICEPower 50ASX2 but they need to build an input buffer and a small PSU.

Hypex 180 modules are also very popular in DIY.
If you want to go cheap you can use Sure modules :
Sure Electronics' webstore Low Power (<100W)
I own two TPA3116 boards.
Concerning Tripath TA2022 this is an old generation chip compared to the modules listed previously.
What is your budget and what power do you need ?
Maybe you should start with building a two channel amp to get an idea of your building skill 🙂
