Hi,
I came upon a pair of older Khorn kit speakers. I'm told they were built in the early 50's. I do not believe that they are actual Klipschorns; I'm reasonably sure they're not. Either way it doesn't matter as my wife wants them gone. We do not have room in our house for them. My original plan was to restore the finish and update the drivers with modern components but I don't have the time/inclination since I can't keep them.
Here's what I know. They were inherited by a friend of mine from her uncle who had them originally. I don't know if he built them or if someone else did nor what kit was used. She didn't have room for them at her house and ended up using them in her youth theater. Unfortunately that meant that kids were the ones who moved/installed them. The cabinets are very scraped up. I figured I would be able to sand out most of the damage and fill anything I couldn't but I'm also not an expert woodworker; I just have tools. I also figured it wouldn't matter what they looked like since they're so impressive. Half of the grilles are missing or broken but there is one full set to make patterns from. The cloth is very dated.
The important part are the components. The woofers are ElectroVoice EV 15W's and the horns are Altec 511B's with 802D drivers. The crossovers are Altec units I know little about. I was watching on Ebay to see what the parts are worth and saw these individual components going for $100+ each. I'll sell the both speakers for $200.
Now for the catch. They're in Lompoc CA and I won't ship them. I'll deliver in or around Santa Barbara/SLO county for gas money but otherwise you'll have to come get them. If they're around much longer I'm faced with having to remove and sell the drivers on Ebay and breaking up the cabinets. I'd rather not do that. If anyone is interested, email me at squire68@yahoo.com.
