I have a Klipsch 2.1 computer/home theatre speaker system and I am wondering what I can do for improvements.
It's currently using TL074cn preamps (I replaced the original ST TL's with Texas tl074cns) and put wima film and foil caps where they had polyester "greenies"
I've checked out the opa42228's but that's a lot for a preamp considering what I paid for this setup.
They have an input preamp (built into speaker housing with volume and sub controls) where the line comes from the computer then this line gets fed into the powered sub where there is another TL preamp and two boards with tip41 and tip42 transistors - I assume feeding left and right channels on the mid/high speakers. Then there is another board with another TL pre amp with IRF9640 and irf640 transistors (powering the sub I assume)
So what should I do here for best performance increase for the cost? I was thinking about getting some converter boards for dual/single pre amps to replace my quads.
I was also thinking I could maybe replace the preamp in the speaker housing only with something a bit better quality and leave the other pre amps alone or just leave the sub preamp as is and change all the rest.
There are also a lot of small electrlytic caps 10-100uf by suscon and g-luxon, I don't know if any of them are in the signal path - Klipsch won't release the schematic for this amp. Don't know if I could gain anything by replacing them with something else like Nichicon low impedance. The resistors are all miniature tan (there are a few mint green ones here and there maybe these are signal?) - I figure they'd go with metal film on these to save cost, but I don't know what they are.
Crossover cap is a bi-polar 4uf made by Soli.
