angle (depending upon perspective) ~38 degrees on that coupler. A longer nose and more shallow angle was used by Karlson. When the coupler is pointed straight up , a lot of the higher frequencies which beam go straight up too so one's about 90 degrees off driver axis. In PA use klam project forwards and mount or are suspended overhead. Think about the power response of a single driver and think about it being back in a cavity.

Karlson's Rocket I guess was the beginning of the klam projector concept as explained in a 1961 letter to Poppe and you can read about it over at Gregg Baker's Karlson Loudspeaker Forum (this is at the archived region - you can reach the new forum through this link)

Karlson's little KR5 "Rocket" "a turn" to invention of klam asymmetic projector

fwiw I built for fun an 18" klam
An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

basically you don't recommend the klam in a vertical configuration?

what is the FR and BW on the "just for fun" 18" klam? what driver?

you can try one for vertical use - that's the way Karlson's KR5 Rocket was used and Poppe mentioned a vertical klam for a 6"x9" speaker which he liked.

I had an older Eminence in klam18 and IIRC its fs ~30, Qts ~0.25 and mms ~103g - there was about 3 cubic foot rear chamber and it could have been made with a vented chamber to go lower.

impact was good with 300 watt amp - wings flare and starting gap affected the overall tone - I didn't experiment.

here's wings on vs off for one perspective
