hello and thanks for taking the time to read this. i normally dont post to sites because usually i find my answer by searching but unfortunately i have been looking for 4 days now and i cant seem to find the answer so here i am. ok so i have a kicker zx400.1 amp bought off ebay so i dont know much background on it but long story short i got it for really cheap. when i got the amp it was going straight into protection no matter what i tried. so after searching the internet i found the basic amp repair page and im not sure exactly sure how i came to the conclusion or if i was even testing them right in the circuit but somehow i came to the conclusion that two mosfets were not working correctly. one shorted and one open i believe. so i removed them and ordered some irf9640 mosfets. well i was curious so i put it back together missing the 2 mosfets and the amp powered on i tested it with old speaker and my phone and it did actually play.i didnt play it long because i figured it would mess something up so i ordered the parts and waited. once i installed the 2 mosfets the amp went back into protection mode like at first.took them out and it powered on again. i cant seem to find the schematics or anyone else with this amp having similiar problems? if anyone could please help i would really appreciate it.thanks

ok i took a pic of the board where i cut the mosfets out. the amp will power on like this.sorry my camera phone isnt the best but is there a proper way to check the mosfets?the guide was a little confusing

they were 3 for $10 thanks
maybe you has been scammed : IRF9640 IRF9640PBF MOSFET 200V/11A TO 220 triode transistor new and original-in Transistors from Electronic Components & Supplies on Aliexpress.com
but only a pic couldn't have enough info, some members from this forum recommended to me buy from here , since that never have issues with fake parts :Invalid Request. BTW is better if change entire mosfet bank not just 1 or 2 because old ones could have different electrical distress even if they work stand alone.

no i only changed those two because the other ones seemed to all read the same in circuit and these two didnt. also i just noticed on the mosfets that i didnt remove from the the amp have the letters I⇟R with a arrow pointing down between the letters.the ones i purchased on ebay from florida say y26 instead. if you look at both pics you should be able to see i think. do you know how to test theses? the link you posted says invalid request. and thank you for your help this thing is frustrating me because nothing looks burned or even smells burned and if i hadnt taken those mosfets out you couldnt tell anything from just looking at it. once again thanks for any help

i pulled the other 4 mosfets. i think im testing them right but one seemed kind of off anyways i plan on ordering all new ones from that website. should i try putting in all 6 of the ones i ordered and try it? or is it going to mess something else up? this would be so much easier with a schematic... thanks

looks like is a shared bank 2 IRF640 and 4 IRF9640 to make sure of this we need to measure voltage at pin number 3 of those 2 mosfets on IRF9640 should be positive Vcc+, if those 2 are IRF640 should be negative Vcc-, pin 1 gate pin 2 drain pin 3 source.http://img405.imageshack.us/img405/8043/irf510ly5.jpg just for example ignore the mosfet number. for the voltage measurement have to set negative lead (black) of the tester on a solid ground. go ahead with the tests ill w8 for your reply.

ok so my power supply is from a computer. im getting 11.53 at the negative and positive terminals. not sure if this is right but its -1 on pin 3 and positive 1 for the other 4. does that mean that the guy who sold this to me put the wrong one in?

have made some research about this amp and never seen a class d amp with pure P channel mosfets (IRF9640) class D amps must have one positive rail and one negative, because P channel mosfet handle lower amp designer compensate it with more P channel mosfets in this case 4 P channel (IRF9640) and 2 N channel, presuming those are the matched pair is IRF640. i will draw where you need to test the voltage rails. to make the test you will need turn on the amp without the output mosfets . report the values ill be around.
An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.
