I've got a few questions

1. if the xmax, the power handling, The Fs and the SD are the same,, is the max spl the same?

2. Who has an oppinion of Hivi? they make a 10 inch woofer with 16 mm of xmax. that's inmpressive to me. and it has good ssurface area so should it not be good for spl? its the SP10 it can be found on www.solen.ca

3. kicker makes an awesome product,, and it compares to nothin else for the money, IF I SEE ANOTHER PRODUCT WITH SIMILAR XMAX AND SURFACE AREA... should i expect the same perormance? or is there a hidden spec im missing here.

(BTW i sell kicker in my car audio store)

Distortion? Not something you find on the average spec sheet, but for me it is at the top of the list of things I look for in a speaker. Maybe not the car audio guy though 😉.

The SP10 is very inefficient at only 84 dB @ 2.8V/m, so it will need a big amp to drive it which will add to the cost of the system. Good thing it handles 500W RMS!

I doubt it would play as loud since the figure for 1 watt spl is so low. Hi-Vi makes some things I like and others nt so much, in terms of something for a sub, I would choose another driver.

Which Kicker driver are you contemplating? I heard a system built using a C12 with a Dynaudio mid and Morel Tweeter, that sounded very nice. Kicker's ssem to be built with underdamped boxes in mind.

IMO Adire or one of the other high excursion woofers is a better choice and will get you true subwoofer performance in a home environment and handle lots of power. Their website shows the DUMAX specs which are much more accurate than typical specs and IIRC give you distortion ratings as well. A 12" Shiva woofer will give you bass down into the teens with the right sized box and is $149.00 IIRC, so I consider it or any other driver capable of similar performance at that price to be a bargain. Check into what's available at www.adireaudio.com and then see if fhe Kicker looks as good to you.

If you're planning on use in a car then there are things like room (cabin) gain that come into play and you can get lower bass than you would from that same woofer in a bigger space.

P.S. I just went to Adire's web site and see that they are moving to a dealer only setup and you won't find the specs you used to.

Search for The 12" Shiva or general info on their drivers.

hi

hidden factors

1) BL

2) MMS

3) the mention in previous posts abt ssensitivity

4) f/r plot to distortion - including 2nd & 3 rd harmonics

5) power out-put plot to distortion

6) & quite to very important - information on power compression

and any comparisions about power compression between the competing subs
