Kicker-A$$ Rock&Roll speakers

I've always wanted to build a clone or homage to the Tarkus and yesterday I purchased a pair of NOS Kicker ES124 woofers.
So rather than this being a clone of that Paul Carmody Tarkus I want it to be an Inspired by build
Specs of the driver here

Wanting to use what I have on the shelf I'm considering using an older Tandy driver as the midrange and they are 10" drivers with very stiff coated paper cones and will need to have the foam surrounds replaced.

I've been looking around and haven't found many speakers using a 10" driver and the Vifa D26 tweeter but that is the combination I'm thinking of.

Kids can't resist doing it, but would be replaced when doing the refoam.
I can't find the details but reasonably sensitive about 88/89dB although that's probably a peak in the response, these were party speaker tops until a short while ago and could keep up with any of the subs I was using
The attached picture is of a top featuring a pair of the same driver in 8" sitting on the Kicker ES154.
I have always used this series as a midrange and never as a woofer despite the Tandy label, the X-max is only 1.5mm
20 ounce magnet and 32mm voice coils in either iteration

Here's a random thought.
SWMBO always said that the speakers using the 10" Tandy were better than the ones using the 8" but the boxes use very different tweeters and I wonder if what she was hearing as "better" was the more expensive ferrofluid damped tweeter in the boxes with the bigger driver.
If that is the case then it would make better sense to use a smaller midrange and doing that would mean less padding down too.
12 + 8 + 1 makes better acoustic sense doesn't it?

In a 2 way system its likely the 10" system might have " sounded"
better as well since it had more bass output.

Then again in your situation. Using a sub.
No worries on that part.

Probably stick to something for good midrange.
Obviously looking around the current market.
There is a abundance of 6.5" or 5" drivers
that work extremely well for a midrange.

It seems that even some " budget" drivers
actually perform rather well.

Depends how you plan to use the Kicker Driver.
EBP leans towards a sealed application.
But bass output is not much more than a woofer.

Inductance is high though.
So the " midrange" would need to have detail down low.
so 6.5 inch will likely work.

Modeling the ES124 it can go pretty low
in a vented application.
Seems to like a big box around 5 cubic feet
to hit low like a sub.

When it seems kicker recommends a small
sealed enclosure. Which it does have a nice flat response
but minimal bass output. Well... bass output according
to what a " sub" would do.

Sealed it performs like a good woofer.
With high inductance ...or
needs a mid that crosses over low

All good points White Dragon.
There is a "But" tho and it's that I have to use something on my shelf; one from my existing stash and I don't have anything there that is any better than that Tandy 8inch unless I use the SB 200 and that is more a woofer than a midrange. Everything else on the shelf is for OB use or smaller than 5 inches. With a free air resonance around 60Hz I'd have no problems at all crossing the 8's as low as 200.
You raise a good point about the use of the driver in a sealed box but if you regard it as a woofer then the performance in a large sealed box makes sense to me and I'd probably build Vb = Vas This series by Kicker has good, smooth performance sealed if the box is large enough or at least that's my limited experience with them.
