Hi
Has anyone heard of or known anyone to have any work done by this person? Ken Ealey I am thinking of sending him my 400A for a 500.00 dollar major updating.

His web site is http://www.kenealeyaudio.com/.

And the page that talks about what he does is http://www.kenealeyaudio.com/Threshold400A.asp

It looks like a good update.

I am new to this update stuff and any input to what he says he does would be greatly appreciated. I would hate to possible wreck a good amp.

I would rather look at a sincere close-up picture of an upgraded amp. Why not disclose the types of components he uses? It will then become apparent if the upgrade is worth the money or not.

How much is this amp worth compared to the cost of upgrade anyway? Is selling it and adding $500 to buy a better used amp not more cost/quality effective?

As a DIYer, you clearly would build an amp.

I have found this
dedicated to Nelson by an famous pianist.

So you want to build an amp.
You got the urge to build an amp.
You got the nerve to build an amp.
So go ahead, so go ahead and build an amp.
Go ahead and build an amp that can sing.

Pay no heed, Pay no mind.
Pay no heed to what we tell you,
Pay no mind to what we tell you.
Cast away all that you were told
And the theory that you read.
As we said come and build one,
Oh do come and buil one,
build an amp that can sing.

Now the only way to build one
Is to plunge right in and build one.
Just forget the rules and build one,
Just ignore the rules and try.

And the fun of it will get you.
And the joy of it will fetch you.
Its a pleasure that is bound to satisfy.
When you decide that John Sebastian must have been a very personable guy.

Never be clever
for the sake of being clever,
for the sake of showing off.

For to try to build an amp that can sing.

And when you finish building it
I think you will find a great joy in it.

or so...
Nothing ventured, nothing gained they say
But still it is rather hard to start.

Well let us try right now.
Now we are going to build an amp.
We are going to build a good one.
We are going to build an amp... right now.

Magura,

I think that is exactly the point of Nelson's joke.

No offense to anyone on the site, but I wonder how many of the newbies know that Mr. Pass is one of the world's best amplifier designers?

I know, hence the comment 😀

I think you'd be surprised, if you found out how many actually knows of Nelson😎

Magura 🙂

I've been a fan of threshold items for many years since a friend of mine sold it and had nothing but good to say about it. Unfortunately I could not afford it so I had to suffer with Nakamichi Stasis which from what I remember is a bad word to Threshold. (it did me ok for quite a few years).

I was just looking at a Pass Labs X150 used on eBay. I checked the reviews and nothing but good to say about it but from my research it was a little on the high side and never sold. Have to see if its re listed.
I actually emailed Pass Labs to see if there is a Retailer in my are but unfortunately no one ever got back to me.

I would love to do the work myself but unfortunately for me its also the DIY brakes on the minivan, DIY front end work on the mini van, DIY renovations to my home. DIY keep my business going, DIR get the snowmobile back together etc etc etc. I would rather enjoy the amp and have it updated by someone else then have it sounding ok. And this seemed like a good site to get some information from.
