I have been using the R100 for a while in my TV system which I also use for music a lot.
As is I find the bass region is the week point which I find a bit wobbly and somehow strange.
It really improved significantly after adding a sub and using a highpass for the R100 around 100Hz. Crossover frequencys between 80 and 120Hz all worked fine. This improved the mid range clarity quite a bit and of course you gain dynamic range. Operated this way it is a much better speaker which I really like.
With a PEQ I have flattened the frequency response and boosted the upper treble a bit but this is not really mandatory. Have to do more measurements to fine tune, so far my correction is based on published FR graphes.
The R-Series is much higher quality than the Q Series, in terms of chassis (e.g. stamped steel vs cast frame), x-over (1st orfer vs 2nd order) and most visible the surface finish.
With a bit of luck one can get them for three hundred Euros. Add a sub with a high pass and you have very nice performing system with a high quality finish. I also have the R5 which sounds a bit more detailed and more neutral but sometimes I think less fun.
Would be nice to upgrade the caps in the R100 but I failed to remove the crossover PCB, so just left it as is.
