Thanks all for your replies! I got in touch with KEF support and they supplied some diagrams that I'd never seen before, attached here.
I did open up the head module assembly and found that the relay there is partially damaged. A much longer story, but this was due to my error. My tech assured me he tested the crossovers before returning them to me.
I do not know why the other speaker was also triggering, but given that both of them are now malfunctioning, I would indeed like to bypass them altogether.
