Having purchases my first full range driver the other week and being impressed with it ( magnavox 8inch ) I was wondering if any-one here had ever heard of this brand??

SWMBO is mad at me but I bought them as an experiment
If any-one has any information on I'd be happy, when I "Googled" I found only one reference and that was for an old science experiment in Psycho-acoustics some time back.

OK guys and gals; the drivers just arrived in the mail and I have hooked them up and I've been listening to Wendy Matthews "Cafe Naturale" for the last half hour.
I am impressed; to listen and be enthralled by a naked driver sitting on a blanket on the floor is something new for me.
Massive magnet for a 1inch voice coil, 20mm thick; 100mm dia; front plate 6mm thick.
It'snominally an 8 inch/200mm driver but cone is 150mm, inverted cloth surround, whizzer cone is 50mm and a hard dome in the centre of the whizzer.
If there is any-one in the Northern sudurbs of Melbourne who could help me measure the T/S parametes of this driver I'd be grateful for the help, but at 1metre SPL peaked at 114 dB with an average SPL of 91, and it's rated 15 watts.
Not much bass though so it needs augmentation.
I have heard a friends Coral 10's and these sound better on a blanket than his in a baffle.
This makes up for ruining the Magnavox 8WR's.

OK I've uploaded some pix to Flickr, if any-one recognised these drivers or can give me any idea of where to find the info gratitude and cold beer flows.

In all of the experienced people here I'm hoping some-one can help me with this drivers provenance and perhaps comment on performance and best use

Google?????
Guess what? I tried a google search just now; and now the only link and reference to these drivers is this post.
Makes you wonder how many manufacturers go out with out notice or leaving a mark on history, as in my opinion these are good drivers, especially as the only other references I found dated to the mid/late 70's.

Definitely an OEM by one of the majors? 8"?
I've had a stream of 6 1/2" that gave a very close resemblance to these. They were from a number of runs and from the differing baskets -- from the front they all look the same -- alsmost everyone got a chance to build them
from the baskets & the connections my best guess would be that these were OEMed by National/Panaxonic.
The 6 1/2s were pretty special, these look to be a level more serious build.
FE167 phase plugs should fit them :^)

These have convinced me to get organised enough to obtain some measuring gear.
All I can say is they are 1 or 2 notches above OK, if not as good as the big Coral Beta, at least as good as the flat 8.
I guess the only thing I can do is keep looking and find a set of test gear, thanks for reply.
I am going to use these in a biggish open baffle, BIG, simple and very low WAF
Regards Ted

Hi Ted,
I found a single one of these on the side of road and now I'm looking for its mate. I just wondered if you had figured out any of the vital statistics for it?
Cheers,
Jem

No, but be very careful about power handling, I was listening to these OB when playing some jazz and i have severely over-driven one of them, now poling severely.
The pair cost me $55- plus postage on Ebay, happy to sell them on to you, make me an offer for the pair.
They are a good sounding driver and very efficient, stated maximum power handling is accurate ( my fault )
Recently some of the 51/4 inch versions sold on ebay for about $8- each, seller had 8 of them

Hi again,
So, I have one driver, you have one driver. This sounds like the beginning of a beautiful story...
If you would like to be the seller, I would be happy to offer, say $30? Alternatively, if you are coming up to Melbourne, you are welcome to have the one that I found. It has a damaged whizzer, and I don't want anything for it. But if, say, you had a part lying around...
Regards,
Jem

For $30- I'll post both drivers so you can use the whizzer, or if you are in Geelong at any stage drop in and pick them up, email me privately for address and phone number.
If you us the drivers above 150/200 they should work realy well and deserve a good quality 12 or 15 inch woofer.
Regards
