Before I put the wings on my hybrid K5s (XKi duct feeding mid slot) what are the latest thoughts on rear finish? John Karlson suggested hard finish but I have seen several posts contradicting that. I recall a post in another forum where the builder used plexi-glass wings and experienced good treble response. I also seem to recall someone suggesting Formica for the rear.

I like to add layer of foam core damping on the back of the wing or felt even. There is too much reverberation with a hard smooth finish for my taste.
Thanks, I will make them removable so I could easily try both approaches. Maybe a hard finish and glue felt over it for one cab to do a comparison. If I used felt it could also serve as a gasket to seal the mounting edges.
I had earlier asked how to seal rear panel and w/o any suggestions was leaning toward thin cardboard but felt seems like a good gasket for that as well as lining rear panels.

my Karlsonator 12 with feeble HF energy 12LTA plays fine without any cavity or back of wings damping. With Nirvana's AN10 and lots of spastic HF, some felt of foam core would help.
Damping the back chamber on a small K can be important.

I didn't realize it until I was too far into it to quit but a better approach would have been to
have done a foam core build and encased it in ⅛" plywood. It's hard to add a duct to a small cab with any degree of neatness in sealing the edges.
If I ever build another 15" version I will put casters on it like I have on my radial arm saw. They are fixed casters mounted on the back so they only touch the floor when the cab is tilted. With a grab handle at the top rear a 15" would be easy to wheel around.
