Merlin, you can safely assume I was not talking about you.. 😀 Still the fact remains that it has happened and is still happening.
What are the new sources for similar kits to what K&K offered, e.g. simple 2-terminal CCS, cascoded CCS, soft start, HV shunt reg, etc. Thanks!
Not a DIY myself, but I did purchase some gear from Kevin Carter's K&K years ago when the commercial line was called "Sonus Veritas", not kit products but finished and occasionally reviewed items. Now, I'm concerned about where to find any kind of product support. Specifically, I am using the Sonus Veritas Genoa Preamp and am in need of the very product-specific 12P17L tubes which were at the heart of the piece's design. Unfortunately, those tubes are unknown in present day commercial designs (some tube-selling companies I've contacted have never seen them at all) and are within the ever-depleting NOS system in eastern Europe. I would like to be able to find a supply of these tubes outside the eBay networks even though the tubes are in several eBay ads. Can anyone on this site suggest sources, other than what might still be on K&K Audio's shelves?
Yes. There are a few listings on eBay which offer these tubes. In fact, I placed an order for some (thru a different seller) back in March but the seller cannot assure when or if they will be available. I'll keep trying. Thanks very much for your interest and suggestions.
I'd grab a few of those pairs on eBay, these are not common at all and could disappear over time.
Kevin Carter of KandK audio passed away 2 February 2024. Always helpful always kind.

Arggh - so very, very sorry to hear - Kevin was a true prince of a guy.
RIP my friend,
RIP my friend,
I knew he was ill, but was not aware of the details. He was always helpful and will be missed.
RIP
RIP
This is very sad news. I met Kevin at VSAC during the 90s. He was a good audio friend who was always kind and helpful. I still use a 4p1L linestage that was modeled after a schematic he once posted. I also sold him a pair of Ariel (Lynn Olson) speakers many years ago that I hand built.
RIP Kevin
RIP Kevin
I visited Kevin, at his home, with a friend that knew him. He and his wife were very warm and inviting. I knew, at the time, Kevin was closing his shop. Also, I could tell, he was not well. Funny, we didn’t listen to any music; rather, we all just talked. Kevin was a wealth of knowledge and very willing to share with anyone…
Kevin will be missed.
Kevin will be missed.
