I'm ready to finish my 2.1 garden system (MkIII). The first two incarnations were powered by laptop bricks. I want to use a different power supply. I'm just checking that if I connect pins 2 & 3 of the input connector to the mains it'll be live (I don't need to connect the remote).

No. Sorry. My bad. My eyesight is getting worse. I meant 1 & 2. Brown to 1. Blue to 2. On / Off via lamp switch in the cable.
Yes of course, but not that. You'll need to connect earth, but you'll also need to secure it and ensure it can't be disconnected naturally, accidentally or intentionally.
