I found a possible DIY TFT-canidate. And again there is no hard evidence that it is high res, but everything is pointing in that way:

JOYTECH 7" inch universal tft

7.0” Active Matrix TFT Screen
PAL and NTSC Compatibility
RGB SCART, S-Video, Composite and Stereo Audio Inputs
SRS® WOW™ Surround Sound Effect
Mylar Cone Hi Fidelity Stereo Speakers
Twin Headphone Outputs
Comprehensive On-Screen Display
Table Top and Wall Mountable
12V In–Car Power Adapter

So what do you think?
It would be great for european people, because it can just be bought in the shops. Here in holland it costs 199 euro.

I got a mail back:

Dear Sir/Madam

Thank you for contacting JOYTECH Technical Support.

The screen accepts inputs from S-Video, Composite and RGB signals.

When usinga TV out connection from the PC using S-Video cable, the screen accepts 640x480, 800x600 and 1024x768.
1024x768 was shown to display full screen output which provided a nice sharp resolution with clear text.

We hope that this is satisfactory, and that you continue to use and enjoy all of JOYTECH's peripherals.

Kind Regards,
JOYTECH Technical Support

But does this mean that it is native 1024x768? it's 7" so I gues not. But i don't believe it is 380x240.

My tv does the same thing, it just depends on your videocard.
Clearly the person who send this email does not know what he is talking about.

The resolution of a PAL signal is 720 * 576.

Actually i bouth this lcd panel for 100 cyprus pounds about 60 euros and i used it on my overhead projector 250 watt 2750 lumens bulb and i have good results. i believe that in the future when i ll retrofit my ohp to accept 4000 lumens bulb i m going to have even better results. I use a 3m 910 ohp which is kind very old ohp so its necessary to upgrade it . The good thing about this lcd panel is that u can connect it directly to your tv and get tv signal. Just connect it to the tv using scart cable and watch tv 🙂
U can connect everything else also. Ps2 ,xbox , pc

actually to give this thread a final solution; this tft only has a resolution of 480x234 dots and is way to expensive for this low resolution... here is the specifications text
