I recently completed a DBR enclosure for a Fostex 83E driver. The design for the enclsoure can be found here:

As it turns out the cut outs for the Fostex drivers are alomst identical to that of the Jordan which got me thinking...
The jordan website talks about ideal enslures for the JXr to be from 1-4 litres which is smaller than the DBR for the fostex. I am admittingly very new to DIY speaker thing and i am willing to drop $150 on the jordan drivers just to try them in a DBR enclosure, but i would prefer not to simply be "throwing money away".
Anyone have any idea what i could expect from housing the jordan drivers in the fostex enclosure. I imagine the bass would be deep but would it be uncontrolled...
Even if there is a slight chance of something i am willing to try. Perhaps someone could model the speakers virtually and i can furnish the physical model

AFAIK the JXR6 is not recommended for vented enclosures, as the lack of rear suspension wants the "acoustic suspension" that a sealed enclosure provides. Any reasonable implementation of that driver would, IMO, need a woofer to go with it.
If you really want to use a single driver for full-range operation, then go with the JX92S. Costs about the same as the JXR6. In a 15L box tuned to 45Hz you would get response down to about 40-45Hz. (Or build one of GM's MLTL designs for even better results.) It would not be a waste of money.

I can second that - the JXR6 requires the sealed box behind it to complete its suspension. Anything else is "not guarenteed" ...
The JX92 is more expensive than the JXR6 (about 50% more here in the UK) but it is a fullrange driver, capable of operating to 35Hz in one of GM's MLTL enclosures. It also works pretty good in one of Ted's 8 litre vented boxes.

So here is the question... how many litres is the fostex DBR box that i made for the FE83. Is this the 15L box tha Dumbass was talking about?
If so woudl it be a viable proposition to install the JX92s in the DBR enclosure?

Total internal volume of your box (both chambers) is roughly 15.9L.
So for best match with the JX92S, remove the partition (or cut a big hole in it) and change your port dimensions appropriately. It's do-able.
As far as keeping the box as is, I wouldn't. I forget the rules of thumb for DBRs, but I am almost certain it is tuned too high and too little volume for the JX92S; you'd probably get a big hump around 100-150Hz and not nearly the bass extension that the driver can give you.
I'm curious how beholden you are to these enclosures. It's obvious you spent some time and effort on them, perhaps just keep them with the Fostex drivers, and scratch-build for the new drivers? These Fostex could then serve as an alternate pair for the office/bedroom/basement/computer/etc, and you could build enclosures for the Jordans that were custom-suited. Just a thought.

Looks like i will eventually build VTL enclosures for Jordans... seeing the dimensional similarity between Jordan JXr6 and FE83's just had me thinking. Always tinkering.
