Hey All,
Just starting out in my journey here. I am purchasing a couple Martin Audio Blackline XP15s and want to build my own subwoofer to compliment them for dance music events in the Boston area. I've been reading in here for a few days and I've decided to head towards building @chris661's Teeny Tiny PA 15". I need to learn how to use Hornresp and keep educating myself, but I intend to engage in more dialogue here soon. In the meantime, I have compared available 15" drivers in the USA and want to share that document with you as a peace offering. This is limited to Neodymiums with at least ~1000 watts AES Power Rating.

The teeny tiny PA 15" plans and information I found so far are here:
I will probably build one first and assuming that goes okay just build one more for the time being. I will also be creating a spreadsheet of potential amps to use for powering these two next. It would be fun to have a little 4u rack containing a crossover, EQ, Subharmonic Generator, and an amp for running the subs.

Nice to see this design crop up occasionally. They're nice little boxes which punch harder than you'd expect.
Some notes from me:
Chris
Some notes from me:
- Make sure you leave plenty of space in front of the driver for the grille. A couple of my builds ended up without grilles because I didn't leave enough clearance there.
- It's much easier to put lots of power into 4ohm than 8ohm, unless you're planning on building a lot of cabs and using a big amp. At one point, I had eight of these driven by a Crown MA12000i, which was a lot of fun. I rarely needed so many, so have downsized since.
- If you are thinking about building lots of these, have a look at tapped horns instead. You can get much more output per driver there. This particular project was very much an exercise in getting as much as you can from a small (by PA standards) box.
- HPF in the mid-30Hz-range is mandatory.
- I used the Beyma 15P1200Nd and Faital 15HP1060 in these cabs, and used them basically interchangeably.
- You can use EQ to make the frequency response more horizontal, or save a bit of amplifier power and leave a slightly-tailing-off response. The latter sounds more "punchy", and saves you 3dB of amplifier.
Chris
Thanks @chris661 ! These notes are greatly appreciated.
I will be building 2 small subwoofers within this year and possibly 4 total within the next 2 years. I intend to power them with something along the lines of a LA4X https://www.l-audio.com/products/la4x?variant=46733985546553
Awesome tip about the 4ohm, Ill probably go that route.
Im most concerned with size. Do you have a particular Tapped Horn build recommendation in mind? Is it small? I will research it if so.
The Beyma 15P1200Nd still seems like the most cost effective driver, I expecting to get those.
Im looking for a good amp up to 4000 watts with DSP so I can set up these filters and perform EQ. It seems like I can with the LA4X but I've only just begun to read about it.
