I played standard guitar, not bass. 6 string, 12 string, acoustic and electrical. Nylon and steel strings.
Had you lived with us capitalist pigs, at the time, you would have had better materials to use.
I played bass, lead guitar, drums, keyboard. We could not dream of access to tarts and matrerials you capitalist pigs used. But we tried to play your music, at least to feel as free as you are still in Hollywood movies. 😉
We hated ballet and everything classical; it was available. We wanted a music that free people played, like Beatles, Deep Purple, Pink Floyd, etc...john curl said:Better than me, but I can dance my a-- off. I studied ballet.
Edmond Stuart said:I like Bach and John Coltrane and Herbie Mann. Beatles is bourgeois.
I like Bach and other classical composers when I am over 50. But under 14 I hated them. 😉
Guys what about skipping the guitars and ballet and discuss something interesting, and going back to the volume control.
Not talking about the resistors and Bybee, but how to do it and where to put it.
JC is putting the volume control before the line driver.
CH is putting it after the line driver, and is using a Variable Gain Transimpedance or a variable Gain Transconductance circuit.
According to Ayre it’s a Variable Gain Transimpedance (VGT)
According to Stereophile it’s a Variable Gain Transconductance (VGT)
As far as I know that is two completely different VGT’s
So my first questions would be: where is the best place to put the volume control and second is VGT a variable gain transimpedance or variable gain transconductance.

No I'm not talking about a mixing console.

It was Soviet approach to an amplifier sound. 😉
Parts were scarce for kids; however if some electronic plant existed in the town adults could steal and bring some, otherwise the source was a dumpster. A power tranny for that my first bass guitar amp I made from a power tranny I took from salvaged tube radio: I cut secondaries out using a saw and wound mine using some wire salvaged from some kind of a motorcycle generator. Volume and tone knobs were made of tooth paste caps; they looked like real! 😀
Scarcity being mother of invention?

JC represents one approach, while CH represents another.
So, what are you after? A majority vote?

Are you stupid?
If you don’t understand what I’m talking about, please don’t answer my post.

I have a vision of John in a tutu. Not a pretty thought.
😀

Men don't wear tutu's, peasant, they wear tights! I looked pretty good in tights, in those days.
