Not at all Scott. The 'rejected' IC had a similar price to the one I selected. It was YOUR AD797, that sounded OK, BUT was extra expensive. And why is it that expensive, looks like price gouging to me! That is why I resisted putting it my design, even though my design was originally made with it in mind. In future, IF I am forced to, I will revert to the AD797 in this phono stage, and pay the extra price, but if I don't have to, why bother?
For everyone else: This just came out today by an esteemed audio competitor who has similar decisions to make.

"From all appearances, the basic building blocks of life must have been engineered. "
Nature's engineering is called evolution. But granted, the ATP thing does look like something syn08 would have cooked up in his lab 😀

I find the internet is very handy for finding stuff that supports my views.

Another good laugh. "We have a duty ... to stay away from the absurd". Posted by the king of absurd: cable direction, bybees, etc. etc. And he dosnt even see the hypocrisy.
"Night and day difference", this hubris must somehow always be part of the story. He has a big posse though.
There's this device, very comparable to a dowsing rod:

I don't stay away from the absurd - if it's important and/or I have some time and/or it seems like an interesting problem, I investigate it. There's often some mistake or something I overlooked where what seemed absurd was actually me misunderstanding what's happening.

From Wikipedia:
I have several pianos, and one has real ivory keys (original for this nice 1964 piano, perfectly legal, well before the 1973 ban), I wonder if a blindfolded (because you can guess by the brand name...) person could reliably tell which piano has the ivory. The ADE 651 is a fake bomb detector produced by the British company Advanced Tactical Security & Communications Ltd. ATSC claimed that the device could, from long range, effectively and accurately detect various types of explosives, drugs, ivory, and other substances.

Hi John,

... And just how much does Scott have to do with the pricing of an IC he designed? I have a suspicion that the higher price might be due to the amount of silicon needed to make the die. That would be my first guess. The 'rejected' IC had a similar price to the one I selected. It was YOUR AD797, that sounded OK, BUT was extra expensive.

Careful Bill a quick google will bury you in stories, you'll never sort this one out.
I had an uncle in northern Wisconsin explain dousing to me and why it worked well. Fifty feet of top soil laying on sand surrounded by 10,000 lakes. A rather practical man.
Links and conclusions to almost 50 listening tests.

If I have to choose these over the rantings of a few self deluded individuals who believe they have super hearing, and blind listening tests dont work, ( or out and out lying for comercial gain ) I know my choice.

So are salesmen who are good at selling things. I know couple of them.It works, makes me successful, even famous!
I wish that I was a good salesman, I know several too, that have made much more money than me, even with my designs, sometimes.

Congradulations.
Is that what some members refer to as "attack"?I smile often. It takes meds to put up with the insults here. '-)
Dousing doesn't strike me as so far-fetched. The ability to find water by reading subtle clues from terrain, plants, who knows what-all, would have been a valuable trait in our East African ancestors. That, and Wayne's uncle's insight, could be survival critical, so selected for.
Anyway, seems in a different category than Second Law denial, magic goop, etc. Just my opinion, natch.
All good fortune,
Chris
