I doubt you'd get very far questioning a two year oldOf course, sitting a two year old on the kitchen floor with some pots and pans can make noise. Whether or not it should be classified as music might be questionable.
Who is it that said "Everything is music only the listening stops"?
I don't know, John Cage?
I'm disappointed in the recent move in the art community to discredit (devalue) artists like Rothko just as I am disappointed when the blue hairs run for the doors at intermission when the BSO hosts an Asian ethnic music group.
I hear you.
I am a guy who is always interested in how stuff works, not just electronics.
You understand, I presume, society is taking turn in direction. Maybe the the general state of the world, maybe aging baby boomers, probably a mix of things. It tends to swing back and forth but over decades, sometimes generations. Nothing one can do to change it.
You tell me.
It depends on how many angels can dance on the head of a pin.
Humidity has more effect than air pressure.
And what is accurate sound reproduction? Can we trust the angels to tell us or is the devil in the details?
If it sounds good to you, are the angels singing?
Music does seem to need some repetition combined with or punctuated by some surprise. Without the surprise it is boring. Without the repetition it is noise more than music. All this based on fairly recent research by musicologists who have taken interest in experimental psychology methodologies. 'Sweet Anticipation' is one book in that area. Being a book there is a lot more to it than my very, overly brief summary.
Sounds exactly what I was told about 20 years ago by a conductor. He phrased it that music can on either create stress or relieve it. He gave an example as the introduction of 'Zadok the priest' which has 3 false starts to build the expectation.

Are they? YouTube no amount of wire recorders and AM radios can keep this down (angels not withstanding) if you have not figured it out yet I am not an audiophile. I love the Einstein reference in the photo.
Simon: is this a metric or imperial pinhead?
Scott, how did you set it up so that vid plays an AD advert?

It's the wonders of AI, should I tell them that spamming my very existence is probably not productive at this point. I could tease Ed about the autonomous vehicle conundrum these days but I won't.

Yes, that's been the way of classical music for a long time, build up the tension and climax with a resolution
Aw MAN! I love Sol Niger Within! Morgen Agren is also one of my favorite drummers...he is both melodic and technically amazing. Mats & Morgan is a fantastic Swedish band, we had them at the ProgDay festival here a few years ago. Check them out in this video playing what may be their most acceptable tune for a general audience:

Cheers !

That part has been known since Beethoven. However there is more now, we are starting to understand what the old techniques do in the human mind. That leaves some potential to find novel ways of pulling the strings, as it were.

hmm so replace genius with algorithms? Not sure you are selling this very well 😛
I think Furtwangler had it figured out in the 40's. Don't need no stinkin' algorithms.
And all the classical composers had no clue?
They knew the rules of voice leading going back to Bach. Only now is research starting to uncover why they are what they are.
