Even if I had the brains, I don't have the time to do as good a job as Bruno did!

Aside: Lovely bit of vitriol from Herb Reichert here Audio Without Numbers, by Herb Reichert | AudioStream

Self-proclaimed audio objectivists, like those that troll audio forums, are not scientists, or audio professionals; they have not directly experienced the giant Sound Lab speakers or the acoustic-wind of a 15A/13A Western Electric horn system. They are pathologically self-centered people who watch the hurricane on TV and then later, tell the hurricane survivor that lost their cat, "That wasn't a hurricane—it was only a tropical storm."
Of course the curated posters at audiostream lapped it all up. you would have thought at his age he wouldn't miss the point quite so badly 🙂

When I report that DAC A is boring and annoying and turns my Lead Belly into Lawrence Welk

Right, no exaggeration here really useful too.

He likes art how about three blind audiophiles crossing a bridge. This ranks in my top 10 pieces of art of all time BTW. The Wreck of the Medusa and the Winged Victory of Samothrace remain on top.

Spoken like someone who's revenue stream is being threatened by the truth.

It always makes me smile how the Japanese had cracked impressionism about 200 years before the French started it. Similarly one could argue that the Californian mimalist movement of the 1960s had been done in Asia for centuries 🙂.

I'm not sure I could actually make a top ten. Best I can manage is works I would love to see the originals off. Some (mona lisa) disappoint. Others don't. And some (the Seurat in chicago for one) boggles the mind as to how they did it without going mad/blind.

The girl fro Nepal.

"She is the bottom of the rung for education.... almost the poorest country on earth. And, then she is female also. They never get an education if there is any money. Plus the culture which seems to think of women a slaves only. That is why i wanted to help a girl from the poorest of the poor up to the best of the best at the top of countries."

You did and do a noble thing Richard. I hope everything you planed becomes reality.
I have a similar , almost a Hollywood story without blood.
My nephew and his wife (living in the states) decided to adopt a kid from Russia. A boy a year and half old was in a orphanage somewhere around Vladivostok ,left there by his grandmother. When everything was clear and they was ready to leave with the boy, they found out that the boy have a five years old half sister in another orphanage. They started another proseger from the states to get the girl to. Which they eventually did. Then the wife, who speak Russian, went back the Russia and spent ca. two weeks in the neighborhood of the orphanage, visited the little girl every day waiting for the paperwork. That happened close to ten years ago. A heart warming story.

That is great. 🙂 Nepal is considered by world org as a primary human trafficking nation. ten of thousands of girls a year are sold off and kidnaped.
My wife was taken by missionaries from her tribe/parents as a small child and sent to Catholic orphanage/school to enculturate and indoctrinate her. But girls trafficked from Nepal are used as slaves and also used in brothels' of India and Arab worlds primarily.

Helping one-on-one is the most rewarding experience compared to just giving money to a charity agency. It is that personal connection that matters to the other..... some one cares enough about Them. I talk to her every day almost.

I have neither space nor money for the M2s, I could have just afforded the smaller Gedlees had I been in the market when they were in production but for many in smaller houses the Kii might just be the optimum, if a bit pricey at $11500 and anti audiophile as you can't get in an fiddle with things.

Try the time alignment for the drivers yet?

Richard,

No.

I need to do another REW waterfall before I go to the Mastering
speakers. Then it will be starting from ground zero.

Question about the book. I've got the other two book that are
the "pre-requisites" listed in the amazon review, "Get Better Sound
and the other one.

So, from the review it seemed that you had to have the software
they were using, the author who wrote the book also wrote the
software? Yes? So is the book specific to the software?

That is what life is all about. Hind-sight is 20-20, too bad you didn't adopt her.

Now among other things Richard, you know that I have my little Tiffany
and now I'm in quite the conundrum. She's finishing up Pre K now, middle
of May. I found this special teach your kid reading book, been sitting on the
shelf for years now.

So I've started her using stuff from it for reading. Spent 1/2 a day scanning making the card cut outs etc. She did all of them the other day and mastered
them in one sitting. I keep checking out the book AND reviewing the
written assignment due at the end of the week for her kindergarden school.

I'm screwed. From what I can tell, she's already at 1st grade sixth month
level. Well beyond the end of her kindergarden curriculum based on the
the school. From how I've been discussing with her kindergarden office
worked they don't put kids ahead until a few years later on down the road.

I don't have the resources to keep up with her growing brain...meaning I
can't aquire them fast enough for me to keep her from being bored. Heck
I'll have to call some of my old teaching colleagues...reading specialists
that will lend a hand over the summer maybe.

I just got my plan.

To come back around again I know exactly what you are describing
about hygiene, life, exposure...at least your daughter is willing learner.
I keep trying to explain things to my wife (an ex pat) who's brutally
stubborn and incredibly bright.

It's the same stuff we learned in the military...hygiene portion, disposal
portion, the waste location portion, and on and on it goes. The number
78 percent of USSR casualties in Afghanistan were hygiene related.
Leaving food out, not washing hands after toileting, tossing used food
cans and old food out the back door right next to mess hall etc.

Simple things like brushing crumbs from counter or table into
hand or napkin to garbage can...not tossed on floor where odors
and crumbs invite insects/vermin and ground into floor, carpet,
rug, etc.

And it goes on and on. We can organize and discriminate our
rags, wash rags, hand cloths, dish cloths, polish cloths, chem cloths,
floor cloths, baby cloths, hand towels, shop towels, napkins, etc.
when we wash, dry, put them away etc. This is an issue for some
that grew up in the third world. When they are an adult, it is a
major issue for them.

For someone who's grown up in a civilized society with a lot of stuff
we don't have a problem with it, we know what goes with what and
know to not cross contaminate. At least I think we do.

My little girl will not have this problem and will be helping her
mom out with things soon enough. She already advising me that
I'm not supposed to eat in the living room. Or that I didn't wash
my hands etc. She is a diligent little kid.

Don't ask me how this happened, but she wants to be 1st at EVERTHING.
from getting into the car and seat belting up to what ever. Now even
going to the potty!

I can't keep spending 1/2 days of making exercises and games for her
only that she master's them that fast. I thought it might keep her busy for
at least a week. Maybe 1.5 hours was all it took.

I revisited today, after the first one she got board and it was tough
to keep her attention as it's old hat now.

I've got to go to bed, I have to keep up with her in the morning.

Cheers,

It appears you need the following - none of which the author sells or designed: computer, a calibrated mic, and ADC and DAC converter and two commercial software packages -- Acourate DSP Audio Toolbox and JRiver Media Center.

It is a very unique book taking you far beyond the typical stuff found every where.

Like all bipolar radiators - they need a large room as they work best far away from walls. Linkwitz also listens in the far field .. so the room interaction is again a big issue.

The future is in wave-guides. Controlled directivity and limited dispersion. And listening in the near field. This works best. And, it doesnt need a large listening room. However, for the DIY person, making a waveguide is next to impossible (?). So, we can buy a system using waveguides and rework it to make it more accurate thru DSP. There are a lot of 2-way and 3-way accurate monitor purpose speaker systems which are not excessively expensive.

These pages might get you thinking about it more ... some good brands in there ... from budget to high-end monitors:

The 10 Best Studio Monitors/Speakers for Home Recording

Best Studio Monitors of 2018 | Buyer's Guide, Reviews, and Comparisons

Ten Of The Best: Studio Monitors - Attack Magazine

Just add a sub if desired. Most of these are time aligned etc and very accurate. Esp the higher end of the monitor market (see Attack Mag).

Linkwitz can be nebulous with his descriptions at times, but the above doesn't sound like the LXmini to me.

maybe. I dont know about them. but Linkwitz has done a very good job of controlling dispersion/polar patterns and attempts at minimizing room influence for far field listening. To me it is still all a compromise because of the room acoustic's large influence.

The more you can take the acoustics out of the picture, the better and more consistent the sound from place to place.

The Wreck of the Medusa was profoundly inspiring to see. I think it should really be seen in person if one has the opportunity.

I would place The Ecstasy of Saint Teresa and The Return of the Prodigal Son in this category for myself.

I think the photo by Jeff Widener of Tank Man deserves mention as well.
