Richard, I'm not letting you run away from this.
You said my making cables... for money... was a very "questionable practice."
How should I be making cables... for money... which isn't questionable?
I'd like an answer or an apology.

Allow for the possibility that, since it's not even daybreak in CA yet, he's still asleep. As I should be (we got back from the Peter Mulvey show last night at 3 am) but I'm admittedly an energy freak.
28th august 2014...
Yes, I know the photo you're talking about. I was only joking. John McCain is the first person to come to mind when I see the words "cantankerous" and "old." 😀

Actually, Scott, there is a lot of consistency to vision, persistence of it
color temperature etc. .
Sorry if I was not clear. RGB phosphors have a limited gamut and cannot reproduce all the colors in nature. The gamut for dyes in film and CMY inks are also different and though there is a lot of overlap there are different "forbidden" colors when going from one to the other. So IMO it is fair to allow for some personal tuning, I don't see why Frank went right to hyped-up and garish. For instance the spectrums of the dichroic filters used in color separation don't match the spertrums of the CMY inks. IIRC Aperture Labs in Switzerland, printed art and photography books in more than CMYK back even in the 70's.

That you pass yourself off as someone who is expanding our knowledge and understanding of things audio when you're really just a charlatan.
a shot of a cantankerous old resident of Illinois
(the Elders may want to have a word with you too)
Why, Mr Steve, your silky smooth cable talk actually got me excited.
PS Audio Sprout integrated amplifier Measurements | Stereophile.com
The sprout is raved about.. It has a 7.5dB peak in low end response which does not appear to be defeatable. Not something I would want in a product, especially not an $800 product.
I like how JA says "This equalization would work well with Herb Reichert's KEF and Totem speakers, but should have made his full-range Tekton Enzos sound too ripe. However, it is fair to note that he didn't comment on any such ripeness".

Oh no. Sun's up. But he probably is asleep. However he'd made a number of posts since I put the question to him a for a second time. Which is why I put it to him for a third time this morning.
You know what a reading problem he has.
As I should be (we got back from the Peter Mulvey show last night at 3 am) but I'm admittedly an energy freak.
Yes. Which is why I'm wondering why I'm still waiting for an answer about licensing. 😀

Sorry, I'm straight. But thanks for the compliment. 😀

Huh?
Huh what? He's demonstrably a charlatan. What's demonstrable about my making cables for a living being a questionable practice with zero credibility?
se
This is an insult. Again. I did not see any insult from him against you.Huh what? He's demonstrably a charlatan.
And YOU are asking for excuses ?
Everything is *questionable*, by the way. It is even a recommended attitude in the life.

straight.
No problem, a quicky read on the web shows how many people value qualities as ergonomics, materials, and detail execution.
Even the unbent ones, take for example the leather stitchwork of the US car upper tier.
(mind you, you still have a long way to go before you can make the pheromones gush out at Ken's level)
This is an insult.
No it isn't.
It would only be an insult if there were no such things as charlatans and quacks. But there are, and those words have well defined meanings.
If someone steals something that is not theirs, is it an insult to call them a thief? Of course not. They are a thief by the very definition of the word. Same with charlatan.

Really? Do you question gravity every time you take a step? That must get a bit awkward.

Yes. Like the leather and stitch work on this old Starrett tape of mine. Was it necessary? No. Is it beautiful? Absolutely.

I'm a bit odd. I don't have art on my walls, or sculptures on my tables. I've always had a greater appreciation for the art and beauty put into functional items. Not knocking the pure arts. I'd just rather go to a museum or some other exhibit to see them.

Esperado's "everything is questionable" is a good segue for this industrial strength non sequitur I came across this morning. How adults in a modern society can be so bereft of the most basic faculties of logic and reason simply astounds me.

Richard is well renowned in the community for being both a gentleman and a very valuable expert. And since years, we all had benefited from his contributions. It would only be an insult if there were no such things as charlatans and quacks.
His AES paper about caps was, as an example, very helpful in my professional life.
I don't know who you are, and, with such an attitude, i'm not interested to dig further. The only thing i can hope for you is that, one day, you will get the huge respect he got from the audio community and his human qualities.
This, too, is questionable.
EOT for me, have a nice day.
Because typing a long answer is difficult for me to do on a phone. And I deliberately didn't take my computer with me on this trip.Yes. Which is why I'm wondering why I'm still waiting for an answer about licensing. 😀

What AES paper about caps? I can't find any AES papers authored by Richard.
He wrote an article for a supermarket consumer audio magazine with Walt Jung, but that's a far far cry from an "AES paper."

That's what the "phone" part of the phone is for. 😛
Shouldn't even call them phones anymore. Should just call them "portable typewriters." 😀
