There is ignorance and then there is incompetence and the two are not necessarily the same. A simple look at the manual would have made the problem quit obvious to anyone who understood how the machine worked. When this is the main machine in your process you would think people would understand how the machine works. I actually believe that someone did this on purpose to get some time off. The timer didn't change itself that is for sure.
Maybe.
However, we tend to be good at noticing the faults and weaknesses of others, and very much inclined to attribute bad events as being due to defects of personal character. Especially so, if we don't know or don't like the other people involved.
These are strong cognitive biases, and having them probably offers some survival advantage, but they tend to err on the side of false positives for detecting bad people.
At the same time, we are usually good and seeing our own strengths and virtues. Thus, when we evaluate others, more often than not, we tend to see them in a worse light than we see ourselves.

I don't know if this comforts me or scares me.They are normal humans just like everybody else.
Took all of about 5 minutes to diagnose and repair the machine, if you call that a repair. Can people even read a manual anymore, on top of that I had to tell the manager how to fill in a check to pay me. I took the money but felt like I was dealing with people without a clue.
Your charging for experience and observational acuity. You get paid to show the obvious. Consulting is described as reading peoples watches for them. Rationally you should be on street corners begging since your not providing new value but most people are very uncomfortable confronting the obvious. If you charge enough and are polite when telling them the obvious they love it and ask you back for more. It does beat working. . .

Sometimes a consultant is brought in as an outsider, to say what no insider dare say.
However, when that happens, upper management may fire the first consultant and find a different one to say what they prefer to hear.

We've all got stories like that tho. Plumbers rely on it as £50 for the first hour, which might only be 10 minutes.
Back when digital mobile phones were new I had a couple of occasions to be ordered down to one of our clients offices as the new units shipped to them didn't work. In both cases after a 90 minute drive it took less than a minute to see what they were doing wrong, and in both cases they should have known better (one of them was a software feature they had demanded). Mileage claim paid for the car service that was needed so I was happy.
Won't admit what my current job title is tho 😛
Tape, tape being used for mastering, and listening to tape was a topic a few pages back, I know I'm late but here is a link to what the Kytopia studio in Utrecht is using today https://youtu.be/8Hyg_WnE4eI

Hello everybody , im very new to this hobby was inspired by reading cool stuff about modding amps and deside to get parasound hca-3500 . I deside to do my first mode by changing polarity and replace r44 resistors , unfortunatly it is very hard to find old holco 47k 0.5 w resistors however i got my hands on holco 47k 1w h2 resistors can anybody tell me if its safe to use them or where can i find right resistors or what now days is compareable to them or perhaps better . Thank you in advance
Hi djovanny, you can use the 1W Holco resistors for the feedback resistor. If they won't fit, then get a 1/2W DALE resistor. That is what we use today.
Slightly OT:
The difference between a horse and a motor bike is that the horse follows you around when you walk away. Until now, that is.

This was with a velodrome bike with road tubulars and rear brake.
Steep head angle and short rake made for difficulty/precision in keeping stable upright at stop.
With practice I was able to negotiate 30km rides each way without feet touching the ground.

Just wait for the next firmware update 😉

I would like to get back to audio quality impressions.
This last week I was visited by an old friend from Texas who is both a musician and an audio recording engineer. He wanted to hear different recorded music in the SF Bay Area, so he scheduled a visit to a couple of people/places and I went along with him. I don't get out much, so this was as useful for me as it was for him.
The first person we visited was Siegfried Linkwitz who is well known to audiophiles, for his loudspeaker design, as well as the electronics to support it. We listened and talked for several hours. His playback was among the best, and his IMAGING was superb! It (the imaging) was the best I have ever heard. The digital playback was excellent as well. It gave me a further insight as to what quality digital playback could sound at its best.
Our second stop was the hi end hi fi store in Berkeley, selling both Spectral electronics and Wilson speakers. We listened to a bigger brother of my Wilson Sasha speakers and all Spectral electronics (that was pretty darn good), one of the brands that I have the greatest respect for the designer. It also was very good, about the same sound quality as Siegfred's set-up, but with less pronounced imaging.
Then we set up my OPPO 105 and connected it with my big playback system, (that I only use on occasion) consisting of the Sasha speakers, the CTC Blowtorch preamp, and one of my larger Parasound power amps. We played SACD, DVD-audio, and CD, including several CD's etc that my associate brought to test all three systems. It sounded pretty good too, like the others, and I still have the digital hooked up to hear future digital reproduction.
In the end, after 'sleeping on it' I came to the conclusion that digital, even the most expensive, is still not all that the best possible analog can be, but it can be pretty darn good.

But SL uses miniDSP and affordable multichannel amplifers from ATI. How can it possibly sound good! 😛
Bill, we're getting progress! Let's just take it! 🙂
(It's all about the speakers/room, folks 😀)

But is isn't just about speakers and the room. I just heard two speaker room set-ups that were excellent, but still lacked 'something' I also heard the same material in my own room (that could use some improvement) with my $33,000 speaker set-up and heard something similar WITH DIGITAL PLAYBACK. I and others have heard BETTER analog playback, that anything with digital playback. So there! '-)
