Hi Wayne,
To answer one of your questions, I use 6CA7EH tubes with great success. So far all their tubes have been fine (except one very noisy 12AX7EH). The 6L6EH's will survive in a Mesa Baron so .... Go for it.

Hi,
I'm very surprised to learn this happened with JJ E34Ls.
While I don't have much hands on experience with JJ, these are the same folk that were making the Tesla tubes before they moved the equipment.
I never had a single Tesla tube fail out of many thousands sold.
Out of the box they all measured the same, rarely ever needed any matching...2% deviation at the most.
Generally speaking, the best advice I can give to anyone buying tubes on a regular basis: buy them from a reliable vendor who has a return warranty.
Preferably not too far away from you so you can get acquainted with them.
Ask then to check the tubes for you before you pick them up and if they should fail within warranty period, return them ASAP.
QC isn't what it used to be 40 years ago but neither are the asking prices....Guess we'll just have to live with that.
Cheers, 😉

Hi Frank, rich
I purchased one quad from one place about 1500 miles from here and the other about 170 miles. When one of the first quad failed two days after receiving them, to me it just wasn't worth the effort and money to return it back to
Arizona.
I would have burned it up in petrol going to and from the UPS "store" 🙁
And when three of the other quad failed, it was way past the warranty, of course! I really like the JJ's, love'em!
I'll bet the vendors that I purchased them from bought JJ's bad runs, tho I DOUBT that very much as I would think a supposedly good company as JJ/Tesla would not allow such out the door!
So out of 8, four had bad welds, two out of each quad, and one I can only guess; misaligned grids that became that way over time. If not for this I would buy them again and I'm half tempted to do so! 🙄
