fantastic

I loaded two new worksheets earlier today. They can be used to model a two way H frame/OB speaker system with either an active or a passive crossover. This brings the H Frame worksheets up to the same level as the OB worksheets. You can model a double Alpha 15A H frame by calculating an equivalent driver, per my two drivers in a single enclosure document, and using a suitably sized H frame. I think this is a big step forward and will allow users to accurately design a two way system similar to my Jordan OB/Goldwood H Frame speakers.

I plan to revise the U Frame worksheet to a similar level in the next few weeks, as time permits.

FANTASTIC !!!

I took the opportunity to thank you and all the member of this forum for all your work and the experience you share with the DIY community !

I've had my speakers up and running for about a week on some test baffles and I'm pretty satisfied. The Founteks didn't quite work but the ff85k do the trick. Both the little drivers are great, btw. Sorry, no measurements.

The speakers play loud enough for me and my living room is decent sized. The drivers blend together nicely and the sound doesn't hurt my ears at all (always a good sign). Some might prefer a speaker with a tweeter but I think they do the job. I'm still playing around with placement. Sometimes the lowest bass notes sound mushy but it could just be recordings or the room or my amp or maybe i just don't know what bass should sound like.

I definitely think these require a little power. My Super-T couldn't control the woofer.

This was a really fun and not too difficult project.

Current experiements with a pair of FF85 (2 facing forward in a uFonken^2) bode well for using multiples of these drivers.

Goinf active would also likely give a bit more dynamic headroom.

Last night these were pulling off Bob Marley without making you think you were missing too much on the bottom.

any drawings? i just finished another pair of uFonkens. i was considering building yet another pair for the man-cave and partnering them with a CCS sub, but...

i currently have a ClassD Amp4 driving the uFonkens in my living room - these little speakers sound absolutely amazing.

depending on your proclivities, some bass augmentation may still be advisable, and with proper HP filtering, could significantly improve the FF85's mid-range

i'm intersted in a "bigger" sounding uFonken - pushing more air mass, if you will. some bass extension and dynamics would be welcomed for Mahler, dub, and electronica. i'm adding a loop-out to my B1 specifically for a CCS "7 sub. i haven't worked out where to set the cross-over point though.

thanks Dave!!! i'll shoot you an email.

Plate amps work well!

If anyone is wanting to bi-amp inexpensively, two 100 watt plate amps from PE can do the trick. Essentially, $200 total for two active crossovers and 100watt amps. Nearly what the parts cost of high parts quality passive crossovers would cost and you don't have to change them every time you use a different driver in the baffle. (if you enjoy tasting different flavor full range drivers)

Connect the source to your amp (triode's work really well)😀, run one set of speaker cables to your Fostex and another set of speaker wires to the speaker level input on the inexpensive plate amp with 2nd order low pass crossover built in.

Then use each plate amp to power each Alpha. Dial in crossover point and gain of woofers to taste depending on your preferred placement and room dimensions.

Simple, easy, cheap, flexible, sounds amazing.

There should be a thread just for the ff85ken + jbl project. Very interesting, especially the crossover...😛 i think that is the direction i wold take for an OB, plus a sealed sub after the rolloff of the woofer

And, as a special treat for inmates here, here is an in-process pic, before the utilization of FF85KeN and the lossy grille. I try not to self-promote too much, but if there's interest, I'll gladly participate in a thread about these. A sub is a very nice idea, but they do a solid 30-35Hz Hz in room. The highish QTs of the driver combined with the use of the floor and the "apparent" large size of the baffle due to the floor loading really buys you quite a bit down low.

which SS amp are you currently using with your Jordan Goldwood?

Hi Brad,

I am currently using Rotel RB1080 200 watt per channel amps. I have three of these amps that I have picked up over the years and a dBx Driverack PA active crossover so I can go to a fully active three way if desired. Right now I am using only one of the Rotel amps and the passive crossover for my Jordan/Goldwood speaker.

Thanks for the reference. 😡

Thanks, I will keep my eye out for a good deal on one too one day compare it to the Citation II.

I had an old Adcom amp for many years that started to show its age a few years ago. I looked at a lot of mid-fi amps (Rotel and NAD for example) and a few hi-fi amps (Bryston for example) and found that the rate of return for spending more money was just not enough to warrent the expense. Mid-fi was good enough and left a lot more money to spend on speakers. Rotel may not be the absolute best but it works pretty well for me.

BTW, the H-frame has awed a quite a few members from my local club.

If I remember correctly, that is two good OB shows you have put on for your local club. They are probably waiting to see what you do next.

I'm looking for a new fullranger to play with. It's going to be mounted on OB with 400hz xover with 2x12" woofers per side.

I'm thinking about FF85 or fe125. I'm currently running Vintage Saba'a. There great but they lack body/mass.

Are these small and light Fostex drivers do not lack in this area. What are you opinions.

Wich one would you choose ff85 or new fe126 ?
