I have just downloaded Jeff Bagby's BDBS baffle step spreadsheet, but the file is not recognized in Excel. I am using Excel 2003 (SP2) in Win 7 Pro, and the Analysis Toolpack options are switched on, but Excel cannot open the file.
Has anyone had any luck with this?

It should work fine with Excel 2003. With later versions of Excel/Office you need to use 32 bit Office, but IIRC Excel 2003 only came as 32 bit. First check if the BDBS file extension is .xls or .xlsm. There were multiple versions of BDBS and the latest version (1.30 I think) may have been named .xlsm to be compatible with later versions of Excel (which Excel 2003 won't recognize). If this is the case you could try renaming it to .xls. Worst case is you need a older version of BDBS.
And you need to set up Excel correctly: "The file requires Excel 2000 or higher with Service Pack 1 and 2 installed and must have the Analysis Toolpak and Analysis Toolpak VBA installed in the add-ins, and security must be set to allow running of macros."

Thanks, yes I did try all of that, without any luck. The version of Win 7 I am using is 64 bit, and I think Office 2003 is 32 bit.It should work fine with Excel 2003. However, I did manage to get hold of a copy of Office 2007 and that did work. When I first launched the file (BDBS Ver.1.3 - xlsm), it complained that part of the file was unreadable, and asked to recover the readable parts. This suggests that the file on Charlie Laub's site has been corrupted, albeit not irretrievably so.

Many thanks for that - It does indeed work fine in Office 2003.Here's v1.2, which works fine with old Office 2003. I'll stick to my suggestion above to use a modern alternative to ditch the MS Office dependencies though.
I have attached Version 1.3 saved in Office 2003 format too, which also seems to work.
I don't like the ribbon interface in Office 2007 (and later), which I think is an absolute abomination, hence my preference for 2003.
