I'm refurbishing a pair of JBL L-110's that I picked up for $20 at a garage sale. The 033 tweeters and LE5 5" Mids have had the domes damaged by somebody poking them in. I've tried sticky tape (and even a shop vac) to try and reform them, to no success. So replacement or repair is the next step.
Going on Ebay, I see a variety of LE5 mids for sale and despite being the exact same size, they all differ by "dash" number. An example is the LE5-2, or LE5-6 or even -8. The L110's came with the LE5-10. My question is whats the difference between these LE5 mids? Except for the dash no. they all look exactly the same? (Note: The L110 came with a different crossover (supposedly) than the very similar L-100).

The -2 is the unit with the ANICO magnet. This the the best of the bunch by far. If you get two of these they should be close to a drop in replacement. Which ever unit you use as a replacement, I would go for replacing both drivers and keeping the one in the other box as a spare. Even in moderate shape I think you got a nice buy.
All I ever seem to find at garage and estate sales is dirty old plastic kitchen utensils.
Guess I'm still shopping in the wrong neighborhoods.

They're a nice buy, but they're far from pristine. They are somewhat faded, but it's all there. I picked them up in the poor section of the High Desert in SoCal, some trucker who had a 'lost load'. The poor speakers probably haven't had current put to them for a decade or better. I sold my L65's a decade ago to my little bro and he still has them (God, I miss those too!). The soon-to-be-ex-wife has the giant 4328's, I talked her into buying for $600 two years ago (135 lbs apiece! 15 in low, 8 in mid and a 'baby-butt tweeter-horn) Now I'm trying to put together a decent system. I've never heard a JBL "bookshelf" speaker of the 70's like the L-100 or L-110, but I'm curious enough that I want to bring these 40 lb "bookshelf" speakers back to life. Just scored a 70's Sansui G-9000 reciever on ebay to power them with at 160wpc. Should work. Cross my fingers and hope the crossovers are good too!
